Well it adds a little color to the mix. Black and red look kinda cool together.

For that price I'd go with a PMAG. If they were same price as USGI, and functioned as reliably, then they'd be great for the range or class/competition. But the price... No thanks.

For a class/competition, i see no problem using them. I prefer dull and drab, though, so no thanks.
