EOTech Repaired my 551.a65
My neighbor put the wrong battery in his EOTech 551 and smoked the internals. So he just gave it to me.
It is a 2005 model which takes the N battery and he wanted a new one anyway.
I emailed Daniel Lelko , Customer Service Rep at EOTech who quickly emailed me some information forms,
RA numbers and credit card sheets and I shipped
the broken optic to the repair center. In less than 2 weeks I had my repaired optic and it is perfect.
I realize that the compact 551 is not everybody's favorite but for $159.00 plus $5 to ship it there
I have an optic on my 6920. I am happy with my optic and I am very happy with the L3 Communications EOTech
Repair Shop. Here's a picture of my "new" HOLOgraphic Weapon Sight.

Good deal!

Agreed. Well done.
Excellent customer service! With the money you saved, buy extra batteries. The N series eats him like candy corn.
I ma very proud of you and your efforts,
Bill
Thanks everyone.I just went to the L3 EOTech website and filled out the Satisfaction Survey. Now watch the damn thing explode and spew N juices everywhere.
Did they charge you $160 for the repair? That is twice as much as I paid; I wonder if they charge more for that model?
I wish EOTech had a better warranty plan, but I guess their optics are being upgraded so frequently that it's not really practical to have a long-term repair guarantee without charging a lot more money.

Funny, I haven't really had that problem. Mine last for awhile. Haven't had to replace them very much.

I did not research repair prices before contacting L3 EOTech. I knew used EOTechs were $300+ so I did not haggle or anything but I will say that it appears that EOTech sent me a brand new unit that they stuck my old s/n decal on. The one I sent in was not scratched or anything but the one I received came in a new box with a new owners manual , a new thumb knob screw and even a new allen wrench.Did I mention my old unit was a 2005 model?
I bought a "working" 511 off of flea-bay a couple years ago. It had been abused and the nitrogen had escaped. Talked to Eothech and they had me send it in. They repaired and recharged it, all for 50 bucks. Still cheaper than a new 1. I was happy.
Good post OP.
Mine started getting a bit dim and washing out in certain parts of the glass lately.
I bought mine in 2008, and had it on several guns, one a DPMS LR 308, and a few thousand rounds from that one on it.
I sent it in, and Daniel took care of it for me.
It works great now. Just got it back last week and a half. Mine is a N cell model as well.
They have fast turnaround , and of course, there was no charge other than shipping it to them, return was paid by them.
Big plus one to Daniel, and to L3.

I haven't had that problem either. Most times it's the owner using batteries that they say not to use, or leaving it stored in questionable conditions with the batteries installed, where the batteries leaked acid ( which any battery device will do, and most every company advises against it). It has happened though. Just not to me. But reading all of the posts and horror stories the vast majority were user error.

Mine appeared "different " as well. I got back a new box and everything as well, and the sight looked better overall. Maybe it was just cleaned up real well with new stickers.
I am looking at my s/n decal and can see that it has been removed and reapplied. Those L3 EOTech repair people grabbed a refurb off the shelf and put my decal on it and shipped it to me. Next week someone else is going to get my old one.
Or... they had to remove my decal in order to clean it or give it a new paint job.
either way I am happy as a clam.

All that matters is that you are happy, I would be happy with an EO for that price.
You got a sight for half price, that's an excellent buy in my book.
