Nikon M-223 1x4 20mm BDC 600 for $269?
I was thinking about getting the Nikon M-223 1x4 20mm BDC 600 for $269 out the door including the free mount from Midway (is there a better deal on this scope that I have not found???). I have read a few bad reviews on this line of scope regarding crappy turrets that break. Looking for a good scope for my new RRA 16" that I generally shoot from 50 - 300yds. Thanks.
I never read a review of the turret breaking but I haven't read everything out there and mine work fine. I believe Midway may be the sole supplier of the 1-4x w/ 600 BDC, so it may be a good price. If you wanted the Point Blank reticle, PA has it for $259.99. 600 BDC on a 1-4x seems a little, well,
I guess I should say this. The turrets are resettable. Pull up "click", turret is unlocked now, turn back to zero. Push down "click" turret is now locked, you can adjust it now. I suppose it is possible to break them while lifting and turning or something. If you are at all concerned with EXPOSED turrets then one of the other Nikon line might be for you.

Why? I shoot regularly out to 500 yards with a 3x ACOG. More magnification does not equal more precision.
RFutch
Because the Nikon BDC has Circles and dots. With that low of magnification I would think the point of the Nikon BDC would just " blur". The Nikon BDC reticle has 3 points per mark. It would be pretty small at that level. Unless Nikon redesigned their reticle, I've haven't seen it on their 1-4x, I think it would be too hard to recognize the individual points. I have a 3x that works great but it is not a true BDC scope.
[EDIT] And because if this BDC was meant for this magnification you would think that Nikon would at least list it on their website. I also shoot out to 500 yrds with iron sight, that only has one point
I was obviously also talking about the Nikon BDC not an ACOG. COMPLETELY different things.
Why not just dial for 600, hold for wind, and squeeze.

The Nikon BDC scopes come with MOA turrets, unfortunately you can't just dial it to "600". If you got the point blank or Nikoplex you would have the rapid action turrets which WOULD allow that

. The Nikon BDC rely on the holdover not the turret.
[EDIT] Sorry, only the Nikoplex reticle comes with the rapid action turret which is not on the 1-4x

I'm not talking about just dialing to "6" on the turret. You obviously have to know/ figure your drop at distance to be able to dial for it. Either way this is exactly why I think these M223/P223 scopes suck. The BDC turret models only work with one load at one atmospheric condition and the reticle choices suck ballz. Its possible to get regular moa turrets and you get a little better reticle but it still sucks IMO. Too gimmicky.
Give me a mil reticle and mil turrets and it can do anything and more that the nikons will do.

Agreed. I do like the Nikon BDC OUTSIDE of the 1-4x range though. But to each his/her own. Technically any BDC scope works the same, one load-one bullet. Smartphones make that all go away. The Nikon BDC reticle scopes don't have a BDC turret they have a MOA turret, if that is what you were referring to. The Nikoplex reticle has the rapid action (BDC) turret, weird. Most of the time I'm zeroed at 100 yrds and use some sort of holdover depending on the scope. I would not buy a scope that tried to tell me that if I dialed it to "600" I could hit something.
If you use the spot on softwear from nikon you can tailor any load any bullet to any nikon scope.
Ordered mine today $269 plus free $99 mount, minus $10 birthday from MidwayUSA=$269 with shipping

I found that you can even use it with other brand names like burris as long as it has the similar reticle
