Best Carry Handle Red Dot/Mount setup?
Which one works the best or are you using?
Thanks
Optics mounted on top of a carry handle gives you a lot of discrepancy when shooting at different ranges because the optic is mounted so high. That's why they came out with flat top upper receivers.
In other words you'll be shooting increasingly lower the closer you shoot from the distance you sighted it in at. You'll be shooting increasingly higher the further you shoot from the distance you sighted it in at.
Some people use mounts like shown below in order to cowitness their optic with their iron sighs. Too much obstruction of the sight picture for me.

That's what I was wondering. I have a removable carry handle so I guess I could buy some BUIS and get a regular optic for the flat top...like a H1 or Reflex.
I had just seen some pics of a carry handle with a reflex out front but I couldn't find it. I agree the pic you have above looks a little busy and awkward to me.
IMHO - catilevered options generally suck for both stability (they almost always loosen under recoil and environmental vibration, no matter how much you clamp, locktite, or duct tape them down) and balanace reasons.
I will say fairly that the balance issues are less "annoying" on rifles than carbines, maybe because they tend to be inherently front heavy anyways, and/or the long barrel changes to balance to where it's not as bothersome - but they still have the mount stability issues.
While carry handle mounted options induce a pretty significant offset as was mentioned, I still think they're a superior option to cantilevered or "gooseneck" options for fixed carry handles.
That being said, I see almost zero reason these days to go with a detachable carry handle + carry handle mounted optic solution - today's optics are reliable enough and proven enough, with enough BUIS options available that there's no reason to retain the detachable carry handle for anything other than an iron sights-only weapon.

Yes remove that carry handle and you'll be able to mount an optic in a MUCH more ergonomic manor. A rear folding BUIS would be ideal when using optics.
The flat top upper is very versatile because you can use a carry handle or optics. I personally prefer flat top uppers because in my opinion an A2 upper (upper with fixed carry handle) in my opinion just limits and complicates my options with regard to the use of optics.
What are you thoughts on cutting the detachable carry handle to make a BUIS? Would it cowitness with an Aimpoint H1/T1 or Reflex?

It comes pretty highly recommended if you're into fixed BUIS.
Co-witness will depend on the mount you use but hypothetically "yes," a Reflex or T1/H1 could be co-witnessed with a cut carry handle BUIS.
