Took the new EOTech out for it's first run today....Problem?

Took my new EOTech XPS2-0 and my RRA 5.56mm AR out to the range today. Prior buying it, I did exactly what everybody warns you not to do.....buy cheaps optics! I'd originally purchased a package from a dealer at a gun show that included a simple 4x scope, HWS, and a laser for about $120. It wasn't bad......except it wouldn't hold a zero and had to be sighted in each time I took it out. So, I picked up an RRA Dominator mount off ebay and then bought the XPS2-0 from Midway USA.

I started by laser bore sighting the RRA Dominator sight in my basement. Set the target at 15 yds at the range and they RRA site was pretty much right on target. Mounted the XPS2-0 and after a few tweeks it was on target. Moved the target out to 25 yds and the XPS2-0 was spot on and I was hammering the target.

Then I had a problem, after about 30 rounds, the XPS2 shutdown. (I wasn't out 4 hours) I powered it back up and fired one more round and it shutdown again and would not restart. After I got it home, it powered right up and seems to be working now altought I didn't shoot it.

Thoughts?

Try a new battery. Factory-supplied batteries can be of questionable quality/age, I never use them.

I agree about changing out the batteries. If that doesn't work call eotech.

And if the battery was left in the sight, the battery drain would kill it in 3-6 months anyway.

I have one and am trying to sell it because I'm sick of the battery drain issues. IMO most of these optics are overpriced, whether Aimpoint, or EOtech, Trijicon, Leupold or ____, but EO-tech really should have solved the battery drain problem before going to 1 3V lithium battery for power.

I have a cheap H1 clone on my ruger MkII .22lr pistol and it has about the same powered off battery life as the XPS2-0. I barely want to tolerate it in a $80 Chinese ripoff, so it makes me that much less happy for $425 with a name brand.

I had a really bad taste in my mouth from the original aimpoint issued to the Army in ~2003. Those suffered from woefully dismal battery life and soft lenses. I've used EO-techs on my personal rifles and on 4 Iraq deployments and they work well, But recently I got to see a T1 and decided to switch brands. The T1 now has an incredible battery life and with the GG&G mount it also has lens covers on both ends. I would like to think they have harder lenses too, but I'm not sure about that.

The battery drain doesnt happen on the new eotehs just the 511 and 551's ive had my exps for 7 moths now and have yet to have it tell me my batt is low

Also projecting a holographic image requires alot more power than a simple LED reflecting off a curved piece of glass, eotech use holographic image

i've had the same battery in my old XPS for over 2 years now. still fine. i think the EXPS's should be the same––gtg. definitely change the battery to an energizer/panasonic lithium and then change it out every year or two. i move them to my around the house flashlights usually––but left the XPS one in just to see how long it would last.
