I have got a Aim sports 1-4 scope I picked up at a gun show cheap the scope is pretty amazing and hold zero pretty well except for the mount
I really am thinking about purchasing a LT 104 and sitting on the scope for a while till I can upgrade. do you think this is a good idea or should I sell the scope and mount and shoot irons until I can afford a nice glass and mount?

im looking at the leupold vx r 1.25 - 4 x 24mm or maybe a vortex pst 1-4

Yes.
At the very least have a look at Primary Arms if your rifle's only duties will be at the range.
