 Best Rail Mount QD Swivel??

I read all 9 pages of this subforum with no success.

I am looking for the best rail mount QD swivel attachment point for QD push buttons on a quad rail. I mean best as in lightest weight, smallest profile, and most durable.

From what Ive gathered over the past several months, Gear Sector is more low profile but heavier than the DD one but it looks like the DD would be lower profile... I also havent heard much about Troy's version. Im leaning more to DD due to it being lighter and it "looks" lower profile on their websites even though people say gear sectors is lower profile, it might be due to gear sector only having one picture of it... Also, gear sector's is made perfectly flush to the Tango Down rail panels shape and Im running Larue index clips...

If you have any input, I would greatly appreciate it and thanks in advance. If there are other rail mounts for QD's that are better, please fill me in. Thanks

Ours is absolutely the lowest profile with regards to distance beyond the rail surface. Check the pictures below.

Can't comment on the weight of the DD unit as I do not have one on hand, but ours is less than 1 ounce.

it might be due to gear sector only having one picture of it...

Won't matter. Most panels have raised areas for increased grip. The difference in height of our mounts and any other panels / clips etc... is no more than raised areas on most panels.

You also might want to take a look at Rainier's new rail mount.

If I needed a QD for my quad rail I'd probably pick up this: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_124/567111_Fortis_RAP__Rail_Attachment_Point___Introductory_Price.html

I personally like the Gear Sector version.

In addition to the rail-clamping portion, it also has a section that slides on over the rail.

Even if the clamp portion were to fail completely it still wouldn't leave the rail though it may slide around a bit.

With my expensive custom AR's and expensive (Schmidt & Bender) optics, this is an excellent redundant safety feature to have on my rifles.

To my knowledge there are nothing else like them.

JTrusty at Gear Sector invests a huge amount of thought, effort, and testing into his products and less about hyping them.

I'll be sticking with Gear Sector products for my guns.

The DD mount you have in your picture is an older version of DD's mount. Click here to see DD's current mount which is substantially thinner width wise and smaller compared to their older one that is in your picture.

Ahh... I stand corrected. What I had bookmarked was taking me to the GS-3050 which showed a 1.9oz, I checked and saw the GS-3045 which is what I need and indeed less than 1oz, impressive.

The thing about Larue index clips is that they are slightly taller than ladders and when I say slightly, it really isnt by much. They are lower than any panel out there.

Comments made in blue

Thank you very much for clearing some things up for me. I am now 50/50 on the GS or DD due to them both being close in weight. If I could find a picture of the current DD mount and the GS mount, that would probably make up my mind. Even better if it was stacked next to Larue index clips and plain ladders...

I maybe incorrect here but per my research I have gathered, the section that slides on the rail has been changed to now a "rock on" style base. Therefore, if the clamp was to fail, the current mounts would fall off. I do like the idea of that excellent redundant safety feature though, I just thought that it is not like that anymore. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I don't know about the "rock-on" style base.

These are what I have, this is the clamping side facing toward you, the capture side is facing away from you:

This is a close-up of the "retainer" or "capture" side that slides over and captures the picatinny rail:

You can see that even if the clamp fails, the Gear Sector QD base will not and cannot separate from the rifle.

This keeps my $3400 Schmidt & Benders out of the rocks and dirt should anything catastrophic happen.

Gear Sector products are some of the best and most well-designed in existence.

You do what you want...but I'll trust little else on my rifles.

Have both and prefer the GS. Jason's components are as much a work of design art as they are durable.

+1 for gear sector, they appear to be well built.

I prefer the Gear Sector. I like they way they fit with the rail covers. However, since you run the larue clips, the TROY might be better for you. I have one, its nice, rounded edges and durable. Its also small and fairly low profile. I prefer the Troy over the DD, its a more streamlined approach to the same solution.

Alright, well I decided on which one to get and just ordered the the gear sector mount straight from them! I liked the DD due to less rail space and less over hang off the rails but with GS making the cross bolt next to the socket, it was lower profile in exchange of more rail estate which Im ok with. The GS back end sits flush to the rail where as the DD has a little space. Also, I am running a BFG VCAS QD both ends with a IWC triglide so when in 1 point config, the GS would be more friendly on the nuts/legs vs the DD square shape. The last thing that sealed the deal was how if the bolt fails on the GS, I wouldnt lose it and it would just be loose.

It absolutely, without a doubt, must, limit rotation. If its not built in its a Gear Sector.
