Dual Switch SR07 mounting question. (Updated with new question)
I have an LDI Otal (IR only) at 12:00.
Surefire 952v.
Host is a Noveske N4, low profile w/ vis.
I've never used switches. I've always mounted my lights at 9 for offhand thumb activation.
I generally keep my left thumb in line with the bore.
What is recommended with this combo? Do I move the light to 3 and put the dual switch at 9?
Any photos handy with a similar setup?
Application is primarily hog eradication with a helmet mounted Pvs 14, but you never know.
Thanks,
Keib
Just found this.
I think I'll order the switch and check it out.
What type of rifle/handguard is this all going on? That would kind of change answers. Also, remember, this stuff is highly subjective, and user dependent.
I haven't used my dual switch really with my setup. But I have some input if you're interested in other options.
Here's a post I wrote a while back. It was mainly comparing the m952v and m600v and their mounting options; but, there's also some stuff on tape switch positioning, as well as why.

Here are my 2 latest configurations. I've only been able to do dry training with them, but I'm really liking how everything lines up.
DDM4
DBAL
m600v
Thumb activated light, LAM tape switch at 4:30 between the rails. I can easily activate everything with minimal movement.
"Mforgery"
Vital-2
m961 body and tailcap /KM3 head
Thumb activated LAM (paddle type switch). I tried running a light on the left side, but with the short handguard, I couldn't get good purchase on the forearm. I played around with quite a few light setups and settled on the "m961v" over my m952v as the 952 body places the throw-lever (or thumbscrews) of the mounts pointing down and was horribly uncomfortable, and I could swap the throwlever because it interferes with the Vital's ARMS level. I activate the light by "beer canning" the VFG and thumbing the light as needed.
I have an SR07-D-IT sitting in my box of parts, I just haven't found a setup I'm big on for it yet. I like having constant-on with my WMLs, but I can't with a standard tape-switch or the SR07-D-IT, hence the reverse clicky tailcaps. If you do buy it, keep your eyes out for one on the EE. I wouldn't pay full retail if I didn't have to.
I found the dual switch made it very hard to activate both light and laser at the same time. If you have to click one to constant on first, that kind of defeats the purpose of a dual switch.

Exactly my issue with it. Using a LAM with no built in IR illumination in conjunction with a WML as your IR source and trying to run them with a SR07-D-IT can be awkward. If you want to run both simultaneously, I found the separate pressure switches at 4:30 and 10:30 to be the best.
If I was running a standard PEQ-15 (or the to-be-released DBAL^D2) with built in IR illumination, the D-IT would be a good combo.
Email sent.
Does the OTAL even have a plug-in thats compatible with the SF switch? I was looking at TNVC's website and didn't see the OTAL listed as one of the compatible options...
The Surefire dual switch does work with the OTAL.
I decided that since the OTAL has no visible signature but the Surefire does (at least the Vampire does) that I'd just switch the laser to constant-on and use the momentary switch on the light.

+1 as well.

Thanks for the info! I was just looking at the pics of the OTAL and did see that the pressure pad that comes with it does appear to be the LDI compatible plug-in... thanks for verifying the info!

It's a Vtor Vis 1 monolithic. Carbine length with folding battle sights. Aimpoint is mounted somewhat forward.
Boy - its top heavy already, and a can is on the way.
Joe and others - Thanks for your thoughts.
I think I'll try a few night sessions with Joe's first configuration before picking up a switch.
If I can easily manipulate the light with my thumb and a tape (@3) for the laser, I may call it done.
I'll be back with a pic or 2.

QFT. The switch is neat, but if I hadn't gotten mine for $20 for mine I wouldn't have it. I use it sparingly since I don't use IR illumination often, but I prefer the standard OTAL switch for my laser.
I have the OTAL with a Vampire on the SR-IT-D switch. I mount the switch at 3 o clock with the light at 6 and the OTAL at 12. Seems to work well so far. I run my support hand thumb in line with the barrel at 9 on the sling swivel and my fingers naturally wrap around to the 3 oclock position. Index finger hits the light and middle/ring finger hits the laser.

What happens to your switchology when you shoot lefty?

Use thumb on right hand to activate. As when shooting strong side, I run my thumb along the side panel parallel to the barrel pointing at the target.
Can you activate both switches with your thumb? That's where I ran into trouble.

On the reaction side, the light is easy to reach with the thumb as it is the forward button. The laser is not as easy honestly. Still in search of the perfect setup. They all have trade offs. If they could make the SR switch with the functionality of the on board fire switch on the DBAL (once for mom and twice for constant) it would be much better on both strong and reaction sides IMO - but alas, no.
On the strong side the setup works reasonably well with the functionality it has.

The SR07 switch does work with a double tap for the laser
I'm back.
The fit on the carbine was a little tight for the offhand.
Sling attachment and light on the 9 rail leaves little room for my grip (especially with gloves).
So I picked up a new upper with the KAC URX 3.1 rail system.
Quite nice and feels lighter than the N4 with Vis II.
Anyway - I've never used tape switches. The rails are smooth down the middle of 3 & 9 . Will I have overheating issues on the tape if I affix it directly to the rail?
It may be a while before grip panes are available.
Thanks!
