Looking to start my next build and Im torn between geting either the 14.5" Carbine Upper or 14.5" Mid-Length Upper. Im also looking into geting a BCM upper to go with my stripped spikes lower that Im going to build. I already have a 16" Middy and Im pretty set on geting a 14.5" upper. What do you guys perfer or recommend for 14.5" Barrels?

I recently bought a 14.5" mid-length. I've used a buddy's 14.5" carbine, and I decided to go mid-length because the extra 2" of space on the handguard lets me get my support hand further forward, and it's more comfortable for me.

my vote is for the carbine. anything under 16 inch should be a carbine gas system. but thats my opinion.

my 14.5 carbine eats anything i throw at it.

A 14.5" should have a carbine system. This provides a near perfect dwell time, better even then a rifle length on a 20".

I may go with the 14.5" carbine just to change it up a bit. IDK yet I still have to save up some money for the upper so untill then I will be comtemplating.

My mid 14.5 short stroked with wolf but ran ok with 5.56. No use to me so I sold it.

Don't let the gas system stop you.. any handguard can go on either.. slightly more snap with Carbine.. but I agree would be more reliable over time due to the same..

Top is BCM Middy.. Bottom is Spikes Carbine w/rail.. both 14.5" (and then pin/welded Comps..)

Middy if you want longer rails.
Carbine is you want shorter rails and slightly lighter rifle.

I am in the same situation as you but I am leaning carbine because the shorter rail length will save me weight since I do not want a LW barrel.

BCM I'd bet. Tons of folks report the same thing, they appear to use too small of a gas port. There are other 14.5/14.7 mids out there run perfectly with a variety of ammo.

mid gas because they shoot better than carbines and dont over gas. no need for the D-ring bandaid in your exctractor assembly.

i'm on mid gas build #5 after 4 carbine length builds. screw a carbine gas system.

My vote would be carbine for reliability.

Get and extended (DD FSP) rail.

My RRA midlength that ADCO cut and pinned 14.5/16.1" runs anything I throw at it.
