I've seen a lot of nice dyed furniture on this site and would like to tap the experience of those who have done this. I'm doing 2 builds for my sons, but when I'm done I need to do 2 for my daughter and son in law. I thinking a nice purple for my daughter and a medium browm for my son in law.
The question is this, for the brown and purple what color furniture should I start with, and what color dye to use. I'm concerned that the original color of the furniture will affect to finish color of the dye. Anyone done enough of this to know how the oirginal color shows through or if it does.
On the purple I'm trying to avoid getting at blueish purple look.
Thanks for any help you can give.
The posts I've read use UDE for a base color. Please post pics of the purple I'm going to do some stuff for my girl.
Many people test the dust covers off of pmags to see the final color before doing any big pieces.
Most of the guys who colors their mags, etc. start with flat dark earth colored stuff...I guess it takes up the color the best.
Check this thread out though, I think you'll find everything you need.....near the end I think, someone did a nice deep purple(could even be the last page).
here
edit: they'll usually say what color furniture they started with and which rit dye mix they used.
