all those words cant go ogether

cheap=dpms, may be "accurate" may not

lmt, obr accurate not cheap

armalite, guaranteed accuracy, not as expensive as lmt/obr/lwrc

but oh my god, the mags cost sooo much for the ar10

In before LarryG. when I say there is only 1 AR10 and that is manufactured by ArmaLite.

In order to hit that price point with an ArmaLite, you will need to get a good deal on a complete rifle (new or used) and / or build a rifle from parts you acquire at a good price. It certainly can be done if you have a little patience and enjoy the hunt.
Quality mags at a reasonable price are currently readily available, so don't let that scare you.

In before Larry G as well. I was in same boat as well and went with an Ar10 from Buds for $1233 Delivered. WHY BUY anything else for that price?

ARKAR

I just cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would buy anything else when this deal can be had.

$1233 is a pretty good deal for a complete rifle no muss no fuss...

Most recently, I bought a free floated carbine upper from armalite for $730. The armalite aluminum free float tube has threaded holes in the bottom so you could add some picatinny if you wanted. With some precision drill holes, you could put picatinny anywhere on the stock aluminum tube but it wouldnt look as sleek as a dedicated quadrail....

Stripped lower, parts kit, and RRA 2-stage set me back $365. 762sass heavy buffer $45. Used a collapsable ar15 stock I had laying around.

So I am into this one for $1140. Like mentioned earlier, the key to doing it "on the cheap" is watching the sales and putting it together a piece at a time. Under $1000 wont happen unless you find a screaming deal on a used one. Be aware that older used AR10s may not have the most recent improvements to the bolt carrier.

Thanks for the backup.

Many, many moons ago, I got this for right at $1000.

It evolved into this:

I really have no idea how much is in it now, but not nearly as much as many lesser rifles.

I also put this one together for about $1200 by using "blems" and sales items:

Of course, the can nor the scopes are figured into the cost of either rifle.

So, by paying attention, you can put one together for a very reasonable price.

Right now, there is the "Inventory Cleanup" sale and there are some goodies for sale now.

I would go with an Armalite since they are the only manufacturer to make an AR10. You wont regret it,it might be a little more than a DPMS or RRA .308 but it is definetly worth it. I got mine for $1400 at a local shop about a year ago and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made.
