Fitting Armalite NM take down pins to an AR10 upper and lower ????

Armalite sells over size NM take down pins for the AR10.

These do not fit the factory holes as they are oversized to tighten up the interface between the upper and lower.

Question is does Armalite offer this service ?

If not where can I send my rifle to have these fitted ?

TIA

I would think any gunsmith with a good selection of reamers could handle the job.

Armalite rep, do you offer this service?

Anyone else have this done?

Who did it for you?

TIA

Why bother? They won't make the rifle more accurate or more reliable

Not to mention a little piece of cardboard tucked between the upper and lower takes out all the wobble for free.

Or a O-ring on the FRONT lug=no wobble

OP do NOT do this:

If you remove the anodizing it will wear the takedown holes.

Lap the pins to fit if you must, but I would just go the oring method or

Clean lower with brake cleaner, spray upper aft lug with way (one shot or any sizing wax) or wax it with somthing else car polish.

add a dab of epoxy (very small dab) on the lower where the upper lug will connect

close lower but keep a piece of paper in between the upper lower near the back

let cure, remove paper and squeeeze them together.

The upper lower will be tighter than a nun in a habit.

I had wanted an Armalite AR10 for years.

I bought this rifle new and the fit was exceptionally loose.

I read up on it and saw what they said about this on their web site.

Sent it back to Armalite and they agreed that it was very loose.
I got it back still exceptionally loose with a new lower that had no white DOD stamp on it.
At this point it had about 25 rnds through it.

Problem was the hole in the rear lug of the upper was way oversize.
Couldn't turn a NM pin down because it would have fit the lower but still be loose in the upper.

I found that a piece of brass shim stock rolled up and fitted to the lug hole in the upper was the best fix.

I have since sold this rifle and moved on to a lighter 308 platform but if you have this problem you might try the shim stock.
It worked very well and cant move once pinned together.

gmtech, I would follow TaylorWSO's advise. The loose fit does not effect accuracy of the rifle. There are several ways to tighten the fit. A set screw through the lower works well, several high end builders do this with their lowers. A quick fix is a strip of black electrical tape between both sides of the upper and lower then trim the edges to fit.

With the smaller AR15 up to .020 gap is considered acceptable.
