do you cover your barrel with plstic for storage?

Guy at range was telling me to cover up the muzzle of my barrel with a plastic bag/rubber band or cling-wrap. Lubed or not, for long-term storing he suggested plastic helps keep moisture out.

Is this good advice?

I've also seen dedicated barrel "booties" by Scopegoat for this purpose.

thanks

If you're crawling through the mud or carrying it in the rain, sure, but if you're putting it in the safe then no. Even if you cap the end of the barrel, the bolt is hardly hermetically sealed and even if it was, you'd still have moisture from air in the barrel when you sealed it. Run a patch with oil through it and call it a day.

No. The only plastic touching my rifle are rail-covers and the Magpul/LMT furniture.

ok, so it's not necessary, but if you are OCD and want to over-protect your rifle, can covering up an oiled barrel cause problems?

Potentially.

Solution: Get over the so called, self described OCD, which since it isn't most likely a medically/psychologically diagnosed condition, is not pertinent to wrapping you rifle with Saran Wrap

potentially how/why? gases from the oiled barrel can't escape and can cause corrosion? Have you seen these ZCORRbags?
