 BCG Lubrication Question/ Cleaning question

I've been doing some research as to what is the "best" lube to use for the BCG. Previously I have been using 3 in 1 oil and more recently Breakfree CLP. After reading around online it sound like there are more "advanced" products that have been developed in the ways of lubrication. It seems like there are several popular brands people use, such as Weapon Shield, Mobil 1, Slip 2000..ect. What is your go to lube for your BCG and why? I am interested in which one stays wet the longest even after large round counts at the range.

Also how many of you wipe down the metal parts on your AR after shooting? And what product do you use for this?

Thanks

Google "Filthy 14"; I think that qualifies Slip as one of the best.

The other lubes I use are Mil-Comm TW25b and MC2500.

And in before "just use motor oil".

EEZOX and Slip 2K EWL. I have became a big fan of all thinks Slip 2K! I also like Mobil 1 however it doesnt smell so good. EWL and EEZOX are excellent at resisting corrision. EWL has a flash point of 1200 degrees so it doesnt burn off the BCG or Bolt at higher temps like BF CLP and other petroleum based products. It has a high friction rating and has handled salt water tests exceptionally well. I like it because it is a synthetic and not a petroleum based product so it doesnt breakdown as easy. Mobil 1 has been know for this for years! EWL is also safe all around. And it is considered an EWL. My observations is, It stays in place better than anything I have used and doesnt dry up nor burn off!! I considered frog lube but it is really expensive per ounce plus it doesnt have the heat rating that EWL does. Slip makes Gun Lube also which is cheaper and is nearly the same as EWL but doesnt possess the friction (lbs) as EWL which I think is actually good to have for an AR. But for all other firearms gun lube is perfect!

I still like BF CLP and will use it up but I will stick with EWL going forward. Rem Oil is crap so stay away from it...dries up, burns off, and doesnt stay in place. It is not a good product.

I just switched to Slip EWL and EWG. I done my research AND bought into the marketing hype.

I don't think you could go wrong with Slip, TW25B, Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Amsoil; you're on the right track, you've come to the realization that their is more advanced/better stuff on the market than what you were using. I have just done the same thing; pick one of the aforementioned lubes and you'll be fine.

I use slip2000 gun lube, and ewl for lubing, and ballistol for cleaning. Both products work very well and are non-toxic. I like the way slip 2000 lubes so much that i am going to buy the gun cleaner spray bottle, and use it for cleaning.

here is a link of how slip 2000 ewl can prevent rust.

Can Slip 2k be used to wipe down rifles prior to storage to prevent rust? Or is it strictly lube and I should use something like CLP to wipe down?

Which Slip 2k? 725 is a degreaser/cleaner it will remove all oils so it would not be recommended. Slip 2K Gun Lube is a light CLP would be fine for that use without costing a ton! I wouldnt use EWL for that simply because it is too expensive to do and overkill.

Is the EWL the light CLP?

i used some rotella straight 30w last time and it worked pretty good, but it was just because i was out of what i normally use CLP.

ETA: i really like Tetra i have had good luck with their products.

ATF

Good lubrication and rust inhibitors to protect the metal. Put a little synthetic motor oil for better heat resustance.

What about mixing Slip 2K and motor oil? Or is that dumb..

You can always mix ATF, Mobil 1, and a little Hoppes #9 for a version of Ed's Red that is a great AR lube for BCG.

EWL is a CLP as well...it isnt a light neither is Gun Lube...my apologizes they are both regular CLP.

Do not mix!! There is no benefit. Slip 2K is already a synthetic similar to mobil 1. There is no point in putting regular motor oil in the mix. Mobil 1 is a synthetic, synthetics are better with heat, dont breakdown, and stick to metal surface better than petroleum based products. They also help from deposits sticking to surfaces...deposits such as carbon. Slip takes this one step further for it has corrosion protections and cleaning agents on top of being synthetic. What makes it so much different or better than BreakFree and some other CLP is Slip is not a petroleum based product. Not to mention it is safer...Non-toxic and bio-d. Gun Lube and EWL as I have stated doesnt burn away like BreakFree and doesnt dry up either. There are other products like Slip but nothing has the field record namingly the Filthy Bravo Company test...that is still going to date! That gun has never been cleaned and only lubed with EWL. But aside from the Filthy test it has been around and used for longer then FrogLube and more well known then EEROX. I like froglube and Eerox...they are both good...FrogLube is just too expensive and Eerox (Might have the Spelling wrong) is difficult to find.

Overall...dont over think this. Get one product and stick with it.

Breakfree CLP is all I use on all my firearms. Been using it since it was invented.

Why switch now??

I'm pretty much the same, exept with Slip 2000. I will use Hoppes in the bore, but not anyways.

I have always just used BF CLP for pretty much everything on my AR cleaning.

Occasionally use Butch's bore shine on the bore after a lot of rounds, just because that is what I use on my bolt guns and it is handy, and I like the quick, efficient results.

That said, I recently bought Slip 2000 just because I read so much around here about it. I used it on the BCG from my RECCE recently, and am looking forward to seeing how it performs.

But the fact is, I suppose the CLP has always done the job. Just changing for the sake of trying other stuff I guess.

Slip is not a petroleum based product

It most certainly is. They use an Alkylated Benzene base oil. This is a "synthetic" (hundreds of different types), modified base oil, but it comes from oil originally. If they are advertising that it doesn't, they are lying.

There is no point in putting regular motor oil in the mix. Mobil 1 is a synthetic, synthetics are better with heat, dont breakdown, and stick to metal surface better than petroleum based products. They also help from deposits sticking to surfaces...deposits such as carbon.

Some or none of that could be true depending on what synthetic base oil you are talking about. M1's primary base (like most "synthetic" motor oils) uses a highly refined, parafinnic base oil that will in fact NOT stick well to metal and has very little solvent ability to dissolve debris.

The "synthetic" oil used in Slip 2000 is very different from the "synthetic" oils used in motor oils.

ALOT of truth to what you just said IMHO.

I think we get wrapped-up, splitting hairs with lubes and grease.

I think it matters more where you use it, how much you use and how often you use it, i.e. keep it wet and you'll be fine.......AR's are alot like women, eh.
