How do I take the spring off the rods? I bought a buffer and need to remove the spring to install it. I can't find instructions anywhere or figure out how to remove the metal disk from the end to remove the spring. Thanks for helping out a rookie.

In the tube-type assemblies, pull the spring away from the front and slip the washer-cap sideways to slide it off the front tube.
The washer has a slot that slides on and locks on the notch on the end of the front tube.

The manual http://www.box.net/shared/cu2djae1zb has instructions on disassembly. BSW

My buffer slid right over the spring . . . yours is too small to do that?

My buffer wouldn't slide over my spring either. It slips onto the part of the ...uh...rear block/button thingy that holds the dust cover down, then the spring fits down into the buffer, but sits on shoulders that are in the hole to keep the buffer back as far as possible.

If that made any sense at all.
It's one of those red buffers, don't know the brand, picked it up at a gun show for 8 bucks.

Interesting . . . mine must be different. It was also a gun show cheapie. Below are two pics, first with the buffer in place and second with it moved forward to show how it slides over the spring.

Mine is like that blue one but the hole for the spring is too small. I guess I could always ream that hole out a little more.

I recommend you do not cut on the buffer. Just remove the spring and learn how to do it right.

I got it installed, the correct way. Thanks to all who helped.
