I have the made in Czech Republic, Berdan, Non-corosive ammo, sellier and bellot 7.62 x39 ammo.

A friend of mine said this is nasty amo and I better clean my AK47 really good to prevent damage. The box says this is non-corrosive, so I would like to hear from folks who have shot these ammo.

Sellier & Bellot is good ammo. I have never had any problem with it. Just like the box says, non-corrosive.

S&B is good stuff and Winchester repacks it in their white box small pistol calibers quite a bit.

The Sellier & Bellot 7.62x39 is some of the BEST stuff I shoot. Your friend may be thinking of older "bxn" marked military ammo made in Czechoslovokia during the Com-Bloc years. All of that is corrosive (but quite shootable) but some of the 7.62x25 is down right dangerous.

S&B is one of the best ammo producers here in Europe, if not the best. I am using 9x19 and 30.06 ammo from Sellier & Bellot for a long time now, and I never had any issues.

All the best.

S&B is also the oldest ammo manufacturer in the world

Never had a problem with S&B, I think your buddy is confusing it with something else. Brainbyte, welcome to the forum. I got to spend some time in Bucharest and Constanta this past summer and really liked it.

Used to shoot a bunch of it back in the late 80's/early 90's, never had any problem with it. I think it was like 2-3 bucks a box back then!!!!

S&B is good stuff, you are GTG.

I've only ever run into one "issue" with any of their ammo, and that's with their .45acp brass (it seems like the case mouths dent easily when they bounce on concrete, not a major issue just something I noticed ).

I thought the Czech 7.62x25 was only safe to shoot in the CZ52 or the subguns.

There was a bit of surplus "bxn" headstamped Czech 7.62x25 that was blamed for causing a couple Tokarev pistols to kaboom. During the finger-pointing exercise that followed it was alleged that the ammo was loaded for subgun (PPsh) use. There was also a theory that the CZ52 design (with it's roller-cam action) was more robust and thus Czech ammunition was loaded hotter for "their" pistol. Both of these theories have been discredited due to a lack of documented evidence regarding "special bxn" loads for SMG or CZ52 use and it is generally accepted by most that there were simply some bad lots of "bxn" 7.62x25. Since there is no way to know the extent of the bad ammo lots, all "bxn" 7.62z25 should be considered suspect until YOU are satisfied otherwise. Personally, I had 800 rounds of "bxn/55" that I ended up trading to a guy who just wanted to pull the bullets to reload .30 Mauser.

thunderstrike,

S & B ammo is good stuff and you should take advantage of it if the price is right for you. As long as it's non-corrossive your rifle should be just fine. Just give your barrel a good cleaning. Your friend is mis-informed about this ammo.

IT IS GREAT AMMO...I have used it in my AK's (7.62x39) with no issues at all. I also use it in .380 for my LCP .380 and I have used it in .223, 12 g #4 Buck and 308. All have worked very well.

I love their surplus 7.62x51. I have a sealed case but wish I could find more at a decent price.
