I bought some of the Tula 154gr SP loads for an AK. Anyone chronograph these out of an AK (16" barrel) to see what velocity they get?

If you can wait until next weekend, I'll run some through my CZ-58. I've been curious about this as well because that's the most accurate round I've shot through her.

I've never chrono'd it. But out of my CZ 527 it'll penetrate both sides of a free swinging bowling pin and last trip to the range I tested for penetration and expansion in phone books. The good at 100 yards I got an inch and a half group with 8.5 inches of penetration into a solid block of phone books with a 3-4 inch wound channel where the rounds hit. The bad while the jackets expanded perfectly every time the lead core seperated completely from the jacket and left me wondering if they would actually be ethical to use deer hunting.

So these basically look like 2100+fps loads regardless of barrel length?

Barrel length is not much of a factor for 7.62x39 velocity so yes.

Yeah, I realized that some time ago when I saw chrono data from 16" AK's and SKS's and the 20" SKS. *Maybe* a 20-50fps gain at most for the 122gr stuff. You'd think 4 more inches of barrel would speed it up a bit more.

I'll say this though: everyone always says that 7.62x39 is "like a 30-30". The 154gr SP bullets doing ~ 2100fps actually does place it in 30-30 territory.

I've chronographed the Wolf 154-grain SP out of my CZ527 carbine with an 18" barrel.

My Excel spreadsheet shows an average of 2097 fps, with five-shot extreme spreads averaging just 36 fps. That's outstanding, in my book, and in shows in the very-good accuracy I get with this $4.00/box ammo.

With the Wolf it would hit a few inch low at 100 yds, when then the gun was zero for 122 gr.

Used too love it in the AK pistol, it really thumps a 10 lb propane tank

I have chronied the Wolf 154 grain stuff out of my CZ858 with 18.5" barrel and it averaged 2100 fps. Temperature outside was just above freezing.
