Steel Polish AK74 mags
Are these good to go or should I go for the Polymer type mags for the AK74?
I prefer the polymer Russian and Bulgarian mags, they are lighter and easier to insert into the receiver. Just my 2 pesos.
Steel Tantal mags are nice to have and I find them more fragile then standard AKM mags. The metal is pretty soft and it doesn't take much to put a dent on the mag body.
There are also steel 30 rd Romanian AK74 mags. I have some which I bought a few yrs ago and they work well. At least the ad said they were Romanian......
Agree with Riverine, Russian and Bulgarian polymer are the best, but the steel Tantal mags do work.
I had a M74 awhile back, bought a Tantal steel mag to have a 5th one. The body was dented towards the bottom, had to fix that. A little heavier than the poly mags. also, lockup was a bit looser than the polys, and whereas the polys would go in the magwell no problem, the steel mags could get jammed if they were roughly inserted.
I bought one of these tantal mags as well just to have a metal mag. I bought a used one sight unseen and it was filthy and rusted but it performed flawlessly. I know its not ideal but I actually like the heft of the metal.
I like the polish metal mags also. They seem to be great quality. Buy while you still can. I have only found them
from apex @ $19 any better prices let me know.
Other than Rguns new Bulgarian polymers at $25 a pop, I can't find any milsurp '74 mags out there except Apex's steel Tantals .........
