WTH happened to ak74 mag prices?

march of 2011 i bought a few @ 10$ each, they looked brand new. steel tantal mags i believe from coppes
now you cant touch them for under 20-25$

what the heck happened?

Supply and demand brother. Imports slowing down, supply drying up, price climbing.

Same here, just getting into it and they've dried up. Hunt the various EEs for deals. I just picked up 8 Bulgy mags for 140 shipped in the pouches with cleaning kits. Also got 3 EG Bakelites for 90 shipped. You just have to look.

I'm going to stock up on 5.45 ammo so I don't miss that boat too.

I can get them for that much from a gunstore...

Actually, RRC Firearms is expecting a new shipment of them in soon. They said they will still be $16-$17. Not sure on the country of origin, but keep an eye out for their arrival.

Don't forget Mag Whores buying enough mags for 100 life times.

RRC has Polish Tantal mags for $16. They're steel though. I think it's safe to say the polymer imports have dried up, at least for a while.

I'm just getting into the game too. Price of ammo makes up for the expensive mags.

$25 each! Wow...RGuns has Bulgys or Russians for $25 each and they're unissued.

in hindsight i should have bought 100+ e german mags when they were $4 a pop

I paid $10 a pop for 20 - I should have bought 100.

I have been ordering from Apex however they have increased their price over the past few weeks. Tantal mags were $15 each. great quality now there $19

Forget my last post. I have been looking around and everyone is sold out of metal Ak-74 mags except Apex. I have heard its going to get harder and harder to find them so I just ordered some more from Apex. $19 each. stock up while you can!

Er, more like $25 each PLUS shipping. Now I know who bought out Century's remaining supply of these magazines. CAI's price was $11 each, a mere 127% mark -up. Looks like they also got all their EG 5.45 mags, which Century listed (until 10 days ago) for $16 each. At $45 a copy that's a 185 % mark-up.

This post makes me so glad that I bought a bunch of 74 magazines... before I even had an AK74. I'm sure they'll show back up eventually.

Haha i bought Izzy bakelites and circle 10's last summer and i just got a 74 this month, im sure glad i bought those mags when i did, prices have nearly doubled if you can even find them.

I'd think twice about ordering from RRC...I got my order for 13 mags and only 4 had the good black finish...the other 9 had some sort of cheap parkerizing that had rust on each mag. The mag followers on those grey colored mags didn't seem to want to spring back into position. I'm very disppointed in spending so much on surplus mags that are on this condition.

remember when fal mags were $3 each, granted i didnt have a fal then.
another reason im stockpiling g3 mags. no g3 clone yet, but i have 100+ mags

I hear ya. Picked up a bunch on Bulgy's when ORF was dumping them at $3. Didn't own a 74 til years later.

This is from their recent offering. RRC lists them as "grey" color mags...what they did was blast the old finish off and the sand and grit are still inside of the mags and rub against the mag follower and spring. That is also the reason why the mags have rust, since the old finish was blasted off...there is no protection from the air/moisture.
