What parts break on an AK?
I just got a Wasr 10/63 took it out today put 100 rounds though it with out an issue. Now coming from the AR world I keep a spare bolt in the grip as this is usually the most common thing that breaks. Bust as far as the AK goes what breaks when the rifle is ran hard in a carbine class? and what would be the best place to buy replacement parts?
I keep a spare firing pin, extractor, firing pin retaining pin, and hammer along with associated springs. There's not much you need when it comes Kalashnikovs.
Keeping a bolt isn't really feasible as a different bolt will change headspace. For spares, I keep a spare fire control group (trigger, hammer, disconnector), a spare retainer for the fcg, spare fcg pins, and a spare firing pin. It probably wouldn't hurt to have a spare extractor and spring for it, but I have never needed any of the parts I have anyway.

I keep these on hand, but I've yet to need them. A properly built (not hard to do) is a pretty tough machine.
Note that bolts may not swap, even between comparable AKM's. The head space may be different. Check head spacing with a head space gauge before switching bolts.
ETA: Emegbers beat me by a minute!

Haha! You will probably spend thousands of dollars on ammo before you need a new bolt or something major breaks!

I went through K-Var. Make sure you have a large order or the shipping will kill you since they ship UPS.
Only thing I've ever replaced on an AK was a firing pin on a buddy's WASR-10 that started mushrooming after a few hundred rounds a few years back. Never had a problem otherwise.

They don't have half the items in stock on their page. You could look here:

nothing, if it fails, use it as a club

heavy is good heavy is reliable if it breaks you can always hit him with it?
If your buy a spare bolt you can head space it to fit your rifle. Of course you need the gauges, go and no-go to do so, but it is really not difficult to do. When we build a kit from parts we adjust the barrel to set head space. But when that is done, you set the bolt. And we are not talking much to take down off the rear of the locking lugs either. A file will take a while, a dremel helps but BE CAREFUL AND SLOW. Then polish with a diamond stone and go. If we are talking a pure replacement or emergency EOTW situation, you do what you have to do.
The chance of needing a spare part is slim. By the time you've addressed every conceivable breakage, you have enough parts for a second gun. So just have a spare rifle. It has the added benefit of being something you can hand a buddy.
Sure, if it gives you warm-fuzzies, have a spare bolt assembly, or at least the parts to make up one, but from the thousands of AKs I've worked on, I've had one defective firing pin (not heat treated, failed in a hundred rounds) and a few lost roll-pins on the romy wire sidefolder. That's it.
This is all you need:

If your carrier gets to show a beating at the rear end after a few crates of ammo, replace the recoil spring from the kit above or get an extra-extra one from gunsprings.com. Other wise that KVAR package is all you need.
you will break before your rifle. Never had an AK with an issue before unless it was out of spec and didn't work out of the box.
Trigger/hammer spring couldn't hurt to have, especially since they're only $7 everywhere I've seen them.
well I am going out shooting with friends next weekend and both the AR and AK are going to get ran hard should 1k for each. shall see how the low grade wasr holds up. but I will be get that Maintenance Kit
firing pin, an extractor, recoil spring, firng pin retaining pin, extractor pin may have a tendency of walking out. Be careful, some current AKs may have a firing pin spring which could have gotten jammed up and cause light strikes. Oddly, steel magazine shells or magazine spring may wear out or come untrue.

1,000 rounds is definitely not "ran hard" for a WASR. You'll be fine
After many thousands of rounds, the only part that has broken in one of my AK's was a disconnecter spring. The rifle still
functioned perfect, only found it during a complete breakdown for cleaning.
maybe he forgot some zeros.... I think he meant 100,000...
I've shot thousands of rounds out of several AKs, never had a part break. I've had one jam that whole time, a FTF due to a bad magazine. In fact, I would say the only thing that is likely going to wear out is the magazine, and even then AK mags are notoriously sturdy and reliable.
an AK is not an AR,you don't have to baby it. now go read the gun that changed the world
