Ok guys. Finally got one of these ordered. Going to be my first AK. Looking for info on replacing the butstock. I'd prefer wood. I read in another post that Romanian wood will bolt on. True?? Other options? Is original Bulgarian wood available? Any help would be great or point me in the right direction as to a post with this info. Thanks alot. dcl

this is not bulgy but would look sweet on it. http://www.centerfiresystems.com/STKAKA22.aspx
also if you convert it you need to keep your U.S. parts count in mind. ironwood or timber smith will have you well on your way to the required number.

That centerfire item is out of stock. So to say. Not US made anyhow.

Theorhetically I have 2 S85's on the way.
The order taker checked twice to ensure they still had them. We'll see.
I'm going to do a KVAR plum on one and a side folder on the other.
The Bulgarian AK74 side folder looks the best to me but used Romanian and Hungarian ones are available cheap. Ergo grip and a "galil" handguard. Vortex flash hider. = 3 US parts. US Magazine = 3 more. Or go Texas trigger group to be sure.

If you want wood the Ironwood sets look highest quality at a reasonable price. US made too.
I would either go Russian Red or thinking outside the box I am infatuated with the wood finish on some BMW 745 series of cars that have a flat finish yet the pores are filled.
Dont know how they did this but it looks classy.

Ok Now I'm worried. Guy over at Ak files has a pic of the tang area of these single stack rifles. Shows a solid hack reciever. How the heck do you install regular wood?? This obviously has to come out?? hopefully it's not a big deal removing this piece. time for more research i guess. dcl

Sorry. I ment a solid back trunion. The pic showed a reciever with no opening at the rear end were a stock would slide in. Ak files, search " isd bulgaria" . Post was by a guy Called " camaro1509".

Wow; they tore Camaro a new one..
Spelling patrol set to Full Auto.

Here is an Ace product I think will work with their stocks.

I hope Falcon has the same type block as this is the stock I've settled on.
Worse comes to worse used Hungarian and Romanian folders usually come with trunion blocks.
Really dont want to cut the reciever side for a Hungarian folder.

Or perhaps the back end reciever plate can be cut to allow a normal stock to fit inside the reciever channel like on a normal gun.
We'll see.
I have mucho experiance with metal fabrication so I'm not worried but would rather not cut the receiver if possible.

After awhile of research it looks as if the provided rear trunion can be modified to work by cutting the section below the tang off. IE it would remove the back "wall" of the reciever box which would allow a standard stock to slide in. The riveted tang section of the trunion would stay where it is for the screws.
I plan on using a drill bit and drill a line of close connected holes, breaking off the lower section, then hand filing the trunion smooth.
This so the trunion does not have to be removed.
Measure twice cut once.
No word from Centerfire on my order status.
Now I'm bored.
