Tell me about Arsenal 106 feeding problems
I`ve read that some of Arsenal 106 series of rifles (5.56 cal.) have been known to have feeding problems.
I`ve also read that these are usually the earlier made rifles, and can be identified by the serial number letter prefix.
Is this correct?
If it is correct is there anywhere I can find information on how to decode the serial numbers and avoid the number range that had problems?
I don`t want to start a bash Arsenal thread- I was looking at an Arsenal 106 series rifle this week in a local shop and went online to look up the rifling twist and when I Googled Arsenal 106 on line reviews, it seemed most of the reviews were about feeding problems- when I searched further into the problem I hit a dead end.
I`m looking to buy what is going to be my only EBR and really liked the Arsenal in 5.56- I`m trying to find out all the pros and cons before making my purchase.
TIA
I don't own one, but from what I understand it was a mix of the feed ramp and the type 1 mags. The new ones are GTG.
I own an Arsenal SCR 106 FR in 5.56X45mm caliber, serial number BE 46 1625. I have shot approximately 3,500 rounds of ammunition through this firearm with no stoppages or malfunctions of any kind. Most of this ammunition (about 3,200 rounds) that has been fired was Wolf! The magazines are the Bulgarian Circle 10. Typical AK reliability!
I understand that the early Arsenal SCR 106 FR had some ammunition feeding issues; but, Arsenal has since corrected these problems starting at serial number X? If you buy a recent or new manufactured Arsenal SCR 106 FR, I believe that you will be good to go!
I saw somewhere on this website were the cutoff serial number is, I will see if I can find it!
...OLD OLD issues..... New production 106's are very accurate and G2G
scr?
Have considered one myself as I would like a 5.56 AK in my collection, how do you tell type 1 mags vs the improved? Don't want to get burned, I am sure they are plenty out there being hustled. Seems it had to do with the horizontal ribs around the nag body.
I believe the first generation were the only ones that had slots for use with the stripper clip guide.
Looks like k-var still has some of the gen 1
here.
I have a slr-106F serial # BD. It runs fine with all 3 generations of mags. All the new guns will run fine with the gen 1 mags. The old ones will run fine with the gen 1 mags also once the feed ramp fix is done. I almost passed on the 106 because of internet rumors, so glad I didnt my favroit rifle by far. Always comes to the range with me.
I’ve put 3300 rounds through my BE series 106F with no issues. Ammo used has been Barnual (green and red packaging) 62 grs, silver bear, brown bear, Remington L223r3, AE223, XM193 and wolf. With two black waffle 10 30 round magazines I have never had an issue. Early on (first 20 rounds or so) I did have an issue with clear 20 rounders so I don’t use them anymore. Based on what I’ve read online I seem to be the only person who has issues with the 20 round magazines. But, I’ve shot almost the entire round count since that time with no issues using the black 30’s.
Like the others have said these are great rifles and they just eat ammo. My favorite rifle for sure.
