Trigger work on Arsenal AK - need advice
Trigger on my SLR-106CR seriously blows.

It's getting to the point that I am no longer enjoying shooting it. Need advice on changing the trigger.
Should I purchase Tapco Intrafuse G2 2-stage trigger? Double hook or single hook? What's the difference? Can I install the parts myself (
very limited skills and access to tools/equipment) or should I send the rifle to a gunsmith? Can you recommend a reputable gunsmith to use?
Thanks!
Single hook should should fit fine.I will take your old trigger.
check out powers custom adjustable trigger

what's wrong with your trigger that makes it unpleasant? I have Arsenal triggers in all 5 of my rifles. Some of them were initially a little gritty but lapping compound made them butter smooth.

Long gritty pull with lots of over travel, some trigger slap

Please elaborate - what did you do and what's a "lapping compound"?
Rifle has about 400 rounds through it, so trigger may improve some, but the improvement will be negligible. I realize it's an AK, not a bolt-action sniper rifle, but a better trigger is defnitely needed. Shorter pull, crisp, 4-5 lbs. weight would make me much happier.

Would it work with .223 SLR-106? My understanding was that it would not and I would have to get Red Star Arms hammer and do some additional mods/fitting. In either case, is it substantially better than Tapco trigger to justify 2-3 times higher cost?
red star arms is same company i think; call and ask? All i can say is I think its worth it. It feels like a regular ar trigger

Take a dremel and polish all of the bearing surfaces to a MIRROR shine. Try to remove as little material as possible. The arsenal FCG is kind of a "diamond in the rough" in this sense. I like the tapco unit as well, but since you already have the arsenal parts might as well clean then up are spare the expense.
I agree with the above poster about polishing. I am converting a ssr-85hc to a reg ak stock and painted it, so decided to try this on the double hook tapco that came with it. This is my first time and am not very suave with tools, like you stated. It was very easy (one you tube search) and there is a night and day differance. If you do polish, make sure you get underneath the "hooks" as well. I do not even have a gunsmith's punch kit, used allen wrenches and a dremel. Used the polishing stone dremel accessory. Nice light, crisp smooth pull, very predictable, very surprised I actually did something that I could notice a significant differance.

Now if I could work on my aim - jk
By the way, if you do not have a dremel I recomend getting one. Use that stupid thing all the time.
Does anyone know exactly dremel bit and what grip lapping compound to use? I want to do this asap on 3 Arsenal trigger groups.

Hmmm.... I guess I can try this at first and see how it works.
The factory Arsenal triggers on the 106/107 series are there 2-stage triggers. Not to be confused with double hook.
The 2-stage triggers can take a bit of getting used to.
The Tapco is available in either single hook or double hook, however, both versions are of the single stage variety and NOT 2-stage.
Always easy and not very expensive to switch out to the Tapco trigger group and just sell the Arsenal group.
And the 'special' 223 hammer from Red Star was meant for the early 223 Romanian SAR3 rifles, not your Bulgarian 106.

Lapping compound is a paste like substance used for polishing metal. It comes in different grit sizes. I bought some years ago for some long lost project. When I bought one of my Arsenal rifles it too had a gritty trigger. It occurred to me to put some of the lapping compound paste onto the hammer and trigger where the parts engage each other. I then manually cycled the trigger a couple hundred times. It polished the mating surfaces to a shiny smooth while still leaving me with the crispy second stage. I wound up doing that to all my trigger groups eventually. I used Wheeler 600 grit compound that I got from Brownells. It's also useful for other things. I used it with my dremel to polish out a blemish on a rifle barrel then used cold blue to touch it up. I've also used it on rifle actions to take out grittiness. You just have to make sure to get it all out when you're done.
Mother's Mag Polish. Availible at auto parts stores, is a pretty dammed good metal polish
Use it with a felt bob dremel bit
I still say get the power custom / red star arms adjustable trigger system
:)

Polishing will help with smoothness but probably will not help with trigger slap,. If you are geting any trigger slap repacing with a single hook tapco is a cheap and easy solution. When I had my SLR-106 I had a tapco in it and it worked fine. Also If you are going to remove the trigger group you might as well get rid of the retainer spring and install a retaining plate.

Well, I went ahead and purchased a Tapco trigger. Installation was a breeze, even for someone with minimal gunsmithing skills (like me). It is so much crisper and lighter than my Arsenal trigger was. Haven't taken it out to range yet, but so far I am very happy with the purchase. This may be the best $30 purchase I'll ever make for an AK.
