Sometimes different importers used the year for the first 2 numbers of the serial number. does your serial # start with something like 87 ? Next start your search here http://www.chicom47.com this is a very comprehensive site about pre-ban Chicoms.
Where can this information be found? How do you know the dates based on that s/n?

Im guessing because i have a Prochine import (early import) with a serial # 60XX which i know is a 1987 build,(prochines were only imported in a small time frame.I had a Sile UF 56S-60XXXwhich was a 1987 as dated by the original manual.The two i have were both dated in these time frames on the manuals as well.
