how do you remove the wood handguard from the gas tube on a wasr 10/63?
Ordering a new stock set for this rifle and wasn't sure how the wood is removed from the gas tube. Any and all help would be great. Plan on going with a timbersmith brown laminate and run a us palm brown grip. Hows that sound? Also is it normal for these rifles from cai to have mostly matching numbers? The trunnion, bolt, bolt carrier, and gas tube all have matching numbers.
the two flats on the back end of the tube that slide down into the rear site base slot - clamp those in a vise
by hand the wood will carefully twist off
If you do not have a vice, you can also do it with a work glove and a wrench. Grab the gas tube in palm of work glove with open side towards palm (wood side awa). Grip tightly as you turn gas tube with wrench on flats.
