You'll probably want to replace the fire control group since the one Century installed is junk, but $300 is a very good price and a new FCG doesn't cost much.

Buy it no matter what. Hell, if it was jacked up even, you could get more than $300 by cutting up the receiver and selling it as a kit on Gunbroker. Like the others said, they go for at least $450 and $500 quite often.

FWIW- I picked up a clean SAR this past winter and finding that the Century trigger group produced some vicious trigger slap, I swapped in a Tapco G2. The SAR then doubled and tripled on me with the new G2. I found this guys website on romanian AK's and followed his instructions on fixing the original Century FCG. Now the SAR functions 100% with no trigger slap and no doubling. Well worth a few minutes with the dremel, and medium grit stone in hand.

Evertime someone asks about the SAR-1 I have to chime in. Have mine forever and it's just a machine. Never a jam, slap or malfunction. Got well over 5,000+ rounds through it. Just clean her and she will love you.

Originals had terrible trigger slap due to Century's crappy 922r parts. They also had a shellac finish applied in a somewhat (to put it mildly) haphazard manner. Both were easily fixed. It remains one of my "never should have sold it" rifles. BTW, I sold it over 10 years ago for $350 and if I saw one today for that price, I would not hesitate to buy it.

Mine has never been a problem. I refinished my sar1 furniture to blond and stands-out nicely in the herd.

Have had one since 2000, has probably had 10,000 rounds fired and only 1 stoppage. It is my go to rifle, fired about 150 rounds in it this morning. Wish I had bought 2 more.
