Wanted to show you guys my .308 conversion project, with pics
nice, is that a single stack or a double stack magazine?
Keep us posted!
Getting close. Just waiting on parts at this point (gas tube for one)

utex dont get me wrong i deff dig what you did here, just curious why you went with that front hand guard
Cool. Is that pistol grip more comfortable than a standard AK grip when firing .308?
anything special needed to convert a 308 opposed to a 7.62x39?

It's easier to convert than the others. No feed ramp required. No trigger linkage holes to fill. The only thing needed is to contour the hammer like the factory one to clear the cross support or buy the Red Star version for the .308/7.62x54 version.
so buy .308 saiga
buy conversion kit for .308 from css, etc...
convert.
sounds very tempting.
do I need to cut a PG hole? I'm looking for the most painless means to do this

It is the easiest Saiga conversion there is. My '04 rifle has a square opening like a standard AK for the
pistol grip nut. It looks like the OP's has a slot where the factory trigger was. IIRC, the only hole I had
to drill was a small hole for the rivet(you could use a 6-32 screw and
nut) to hold the trigger guard. The hole may have already been there, though.
Essentially all you do is remove the FCG. Remove the trigger guard and plate(will require either grinding or careful drilling of a few spot wields). Reinstall trigger guard, pistol grip, and new US made FCG. I used the factory hammer to avoid having to tune the G2 hammer. I also had to use a standard AK selector switch. The standard AK trigger wouldn't engage the Saiga switch when set to "safe".
You need 5 US made parts for an AK without a muzzle device. I used a US made buttstock, pistol grip, trigger, disconnector, and magazines(3 parts per) for a total of 7. I'd need to add one more part if I want to "legally" use Russian mags in the rifle.
