Noob here. My Saiga-12 is being shipped to me and I already have my laundry list of parts to buy for my 922r conversion. Before I move forward and spend the money I wanted to know some things. If this is my SHTF/Home Defense rifle is it better to not fool with anything, keep it all stock parts and 5 round magazine? Even though it will look much cooler and be a more comfortable gun to shoot will putting a conversion kit (#7 from Carolina shooters supply) make this gun ANY less reliable?? Thanks guys.

either way it will function, making it 922r compliant will give you the home defense capability of higher capacity magazines or something like that

you have to really skrew up the conversion process to damage reliability/function, so if you do it correctly, you'll have NO issues
IMHO you should convert your shotgun, it opens up a world of opportunity to add more cool shit, and you get the satisfaction of knowing you changed your shotgun
a conversion is a game changer, just look at the saiga conversion photo thread

I know, VERY COOL and have every intention of doing it but when I crunch the numbers I am tempted to keep S12 as is and use the money for another AR15 build! Thanks for the knowledge.

ha! yes, my FFL. Used Bud's for the first time. Wow. TOO EASY. Dangerous! I'm thinking of putting on big muzzle break from JT enterprises or Monster brake by Tromix. Will it be ridiculously long if I don't have a smith chop down my barrel and then put it on (legal length of course)? Is it a relatively common thing for them to do and won't mess up anything?
