I have an Egyptian AKM with Arabic markings on the trunnion, sight base, sight leaf and dust cover. The serial on the bolt and carrier look like the numerals we use. Is this how its supposed to be, or were the rifles originally made with arabic serials on the internals?

yes, they had arabic marked guns for themselves, and they made them with western arabic numerals on export guns.
