Yugo SKS problems?
Picked up one of the $199 Yugo's at Cabela's back in December 2010. Shot around 200 rounds through it with no problems after a complete cosmolene removal first cleaning. Damn, there was cosmo everywhere. A call left on my answering machine after work today states that there was a problem with the vendors of my what looks to be an unfired 1977 model. Says to bring it back to store for an inspection. Also says not to load, fire or use mentioned SKS firearm. I hate to return a rifle to a store that one of the emplyees had the brains to scratch the cosmo off an otherwise nice looking matching number Yugo with a screwdriver to try and find the serial number before I objected to the screwdriver trick. The lady that left the message stated that a letter would be sent to me with more details. I'm thinking that the warning was a cover their ass type thing because someone tried to shoot one without cleaning it or some other owner caused problem. Anyone else get a call like this or had a problem with a recent Yugo SKS purchase? Thanks, Dave
There's another thread I saw earlier on SKS's from Cabelas. Apparently, there were several SKS's that came in, that had been de-milled, by drilling a big hole in the chamber. Cabelas then sold these demilled guns. Someone on another board shot his, and ended up getting hurt (nothing major). Cabelas then put out a recall on the ones that they sold.
Thanks. Any chance of directing me to that thread.
I went ahead and googled this and needless to say, I'm glad I went over it and mines OK. Better check them if you bought one from Cabela's.
It was on the sks boards.

Got a call from Cabelas on Friday. I looked mine over to see if i could match the photos on the other board, I see no signs of drilling
Received my letter today. Anyone take one in for Cabala's to look at? Did they take it apart or just look for the drilled hole? Like stated before, mine has around 200 rounds through it with no problems and don't want their non gunsmith employees to disassemble my rifle. If it needs to be taken apart I'd like to just take the stock off at home and take it in. Think I'd like to let them cover their ass but would like to know how they do the inspection. Thanks, Dave
SCARY!
Good reason to inspect all guns, especially older ones, before firing.

I agree... especially ones that could possibly have cosmoline in them.
