is there a way to pin/weld a buffer tube onto a draco? Make is like an AR pistol with the buffer tube? If i did this would it make it a sbr?

thanks,

Since it serves no purpose other than to mount a stock, I'd be concerned ATF would consider that intent to construct an SBR. Since you can use the buffer tube as a make shift stock, again, you're entering into dangerous territory IMO.

Buffer tubes are aluminum....the rear trunnion is steel....so welding it wouldn't be an option anyway.

Personally, I wouldn't try it unless you have a stamp.

JMO (and I'm no attorney).

I agree. The buffer tube on AR pistols gets a pass because it's a required part of the action for most AR designs.

Putting it on a Draco would serve no purpose other than constructive intent in the eyes of the ATF. You could always write the Tech Branch and ask them for a determination letter. If it was a pistol buffer tube with no stock mounting points, I guess they might let that pass, although I'm still unclear on the purpose, unless it's because you think it will even out the Draco's balance or something.

ACE stock company does make AR buffer tube adapters for AK's that would work well on a Draco, and some here have used them on their SBR builds.

Are we talking an PISTOL buffer tube, one without any stock mounting ability, or just a standard A2/M4 tube with the ability? If it's the former then I have to ask why do you even want to do this? If your intent is to make an SBR then go through the process of making an SBR. IMHO, going and writing the ATF on all these little concerns regarding the Draco can't be a good thing in the long run.

Agreed. Writing the ATF on this is asking for trouble.

I suspect what you're really planning (DON'T tell us if this is the case) is that you can use the buffer tube as a makeshift stock. Or, you plan to install a rifle buffer tube and then, if the SHTF, you can just slide on a real AR stock and you'll have an instant SBR.....law be damned. While I may agree with you that the legitimacy of our government would be in serious question if the SHTF and I also agree that NFA is clearly un-Constitutional.....your idea about adding the buffer is frankly, ill-conceived. There really can be only one real reason for its attachment....makeshift or actually adding a stock....neither of which will be approved by ATF.

The only thing you'll be doing is jeopardizing future ownership of pistol ARs (for what should be obvious reasons).

Please don't try to be cute with the ATF. They may not be all that bright, but they can see through questions like this.

If he wants to weight the tube, it could just be for balance. The Draco is obviously VERY nose-heavy.

Ya, that's probably the real reason.

Umm......how about no? Dangerous territory, & I think even if properly registered & all it would be awkward & unnecessary.

What next, a shirt with a built in buffer tube on the right shoulder?
