Adjustable fore grip on Mini-Draco AOW?
Just finished modifying a quad-rail for my mini and I ordered a AFG2 because the angled fore grips are legal. My question, if I have an adjustable fore grip and i *promise* not to use it in the vertical position, is it legal? Really, its just as easy to throw on a vertical grip as it is to change the position of my grip. What do you think?
Does not matter. With the ATF, if it has the capabilty, it is.
Do. Not.
Ha ha yeah I figured. Thanks.
And keep in mind, the whole "The Magpul AFG is okay!" thing is a tech branch opinion letter for an AR pistol.
While they MAY be indicative of the ATF's position on a particular matter, tech branch opinions are only good for:
- The precise firearm and combination/configuration in question..
- The individual who asked the question and received the letter...
- Until such time that the ATF changes their mind and that opinion is no longer valid....
why not mount a bipod? The ATF allows Ruger to do so from the factory on the Charger pistol?
A bipod is legal on any pistol because it is simply a rest not a grip. Bipod/grip combos are still a no no unless you get the aow stamp.
Is the OAL >26"?

I guess I'll take my chances...

Of the mini? No, it's about 16.5" if I remember correctly.

I am not a lawyer, but I would recommend against doing so. ATF most likely frown on it.

Don't we all.

Although, I don't see it being an issue on the mini if it was approved for the AR pistol. I guess I could ask the ATF.
Just got my letter from ATF Tech Branch Chief (2 month wait), on 25 Oct 2011, he states and even underlines in his letter my Magpul AFG is not a vertical forward grip and I may legally add it onto my Draco without changing its GCA classification. I can email a copy of the letter if you send me a request to desertguide @cox.net
ADDED: This letter is for example only, as it is addressed specifically to me, i.e., you will want to request your own ATF letter. Again my request took 2 months.

In response to the red text above: Is there any legal text that says this? I've heard it a million times, but have yet to see anything backing it up. It really doesn't make any sense (well, a lot of the stuff the ATF does, doesn't make sense, but.....). How can something be good for one person, and not the next?
