Had an epiphany today
So I normally carry a IWB holster (Comptac minotaur) year round. But in the winter it's a bit difficult to dig through so many layers of clothing to get to my EDC. I found myself at a gun show with a couple of friends and decided to address this.
I picked up a simple bladetech OWB holster, Revolution series and a Target Sports tactical double mag pouch (made in Israeli). I liked the Target Sports mag pouch more because it's an adjustable cant. I felt without the cant the two spare mags kind of dug into my side when sitting down.
Just a shirt untucked made this carry like the cat's meow. Its a simple paddle holster and mag pouch.
I can OC in Utah so that's not an issue but why give up the advantage in a CCW situation.
I plan on getting a second set of these in the future for my 1911 for winter carry. I currently carry my XD9 year round but will be switching off next year.
The guys that carry this way already knew this but it took me years to learn this lesson.
I love paddle holsters. So many will tell you that you will get your gun taken from you and post a video showing an example two guys did in the woods of just such a thing. I don't buy it.
Seriously, I have put my Glock 19 in a Fobus Evolution paddle down in Kentucky and have gone on several long hiking trips in the thick woods and cliff walls as well as going through caves and every now and then falling and the same paddle holster has stayed in place and never let me down. Simple $25 holster and it works great for most everything.
However, I usually wear a Bladetech IWB or KingTuk when ccw'ing because I can't ccw a OWB paddle without an over shirt or jacket so now is fine but spring through fall it's usually an IWB rig. Only gun I don't care for the paddle is my 1911 just because it puts all the weight in one little spot and can get annoying, YMMV.

Good to know about the 1911 and the weight concern.
Thanks.
I think the guys in the woods were showing the Fobus Roto holster flaws, which is legit, at least on the one I used to have that I screwed with. I have a Fobus paddle, non roto style, and we tried the same thing regarding ripping it off it's paddle base, no dice, scratched the ever living shit out of my hip, but it stayed on my hip and didn't go anywhere.
I like my paddle holster, and OWB kydex for winter carry, and summer carry with a long, loose shirt just fine.

So I took a class that also instructed on firearms retention with OWB holsters. They recommended that you put your hand on your pistol and push down with some force while turning your entire body right.
An OWB holster that holds tight to your body can be easily concealed, even with just a t-shirt. It all about positioning.
yep. I ditched my MTAC a while ago infavor of a OWB holtser.
