Using skateboard tape on glock grip?

I haven't gone shooting in months, but in order to keep up with practice I do a lot of dry fire. I've noticed recently that when I'm sweaty the gun feels really slippery in my hand.

I was wondering if anyone has used skateboard tape and how they liked it. I'm going to shoot a practical competition next week which will let me practice with a new set up for real. Thanks!

I used some on my 1911 front strap and really liked it. I took a soldering iron to the Glock. Not quite as grippy bit a real improvement over the factory texture. Just put some tape on. If you don't like it you can always peel it off.

cool. Yeah, I am not brave enough to stipple. Plus I have the G21SF with ambi safety so I don't want to hack on it in case the mag release fails and like they are prone to do and I have to send it back to Glock for replacement.

The guys at the skate shop were really nice. I told them I was using the tape for a pistol and they gave me a bunch of scraps for free.

I use Agrip on all my Glocks, except one. Tried some Wilson tennis racquet grip tape and it works great, also. Don't have any use for a sandpaper grip.

What's the symbol you stippled on the side of the GLock frame? It... it almost looks like Magneto's helmet.

Here's the end result. After more dry fire practice, it's totally rock solid. Much quicker to aim. Next I'm going to get my hands wet first and see what happens.

I got the tape for free. They were scraps that the skateboard shop has.

Those sharp corners are gonna start peeling soon. Round the corners of any future replacement pieces.

I used skate tape on my issue 19 in Iraq and it worked like a champ although it needed replaced about every 7-8 months to keep it fresh.

Well I just carried it concealed and scraped my side pretty bad.

I'm thinking if I just keep the tape on the front and back strap, and remove it from the sides, it will still be plenty grippy and not cause me issues. Does this sound reasonable?

Do you have trouble keeping yours on? I tried 3M step tape on mine and it never wanted to stay in place on the backstrap. Trying to wrap a flat object around a curved surface just didn't seem to be working for me.

It's a Spartan helmet.

When I had grip tape on my Glock I took the back edge of my pocket knife and scraped some of the grit off on the left side of the grip.

Did you clean and degrease first?

Honestly, it was 5-6 years ago when I tried it, and I don't really remember. I may give it another try and make 100% sure it's clean/de-greased.

I used to use skate tape, ran out and needed to replace the tape on a few pistols so I bought some 3M step tape at lowes. It does not work as well as the skate tape, at least it does not stick to the frame as well. When I reapply it I planned to just cut strips and wrap around the entire grip instead of cutting panels to see if that would help.

I wiped the grip down with rubbing alcohol first, it didnt seem to help any.

I just didn't put any on the inboard side of the grip. Front, back, and outboard side.
