Glock 19 or Glock 17
I am debtaing between these two pistols in the GEN 3 versions for my CCW. I am currently using a 1911 Commander as a CCW. Im looking to shed some weight and carry without being in the "cocked and ready to rock" position. I love my 21SF so Im thinking of Glock as an alternative to the 1911..What are your thoughts? Im open to other models as well...
G19

CCW = 19.
It's the right size unless you're over 6' / 250lbs
Funny, I was recently in this same position. I went with the 17 because I decided that if I wanted a truly compact 9mm I would go with a single stack. Direct comparisons between the two reveled to me that the 19 wasn't going to be any easier to conceal than the 17 and the 17 gave me the extra rounds and accuracy that I was looking for. All that being said, I am now comparing all of the single stack 9s for a IWB/Summer carry.
Hope this helps,in before all the19 love and looking forward to all of the constructive replies.
I have both and was, up until recently, exquisitely pleased with the 19. But after shooting a 26, I think I should have gotten one of those instead of the 19.
I conceal carried the Glock 17 for years and years. I only moved away from it because I got into competition and I lightened the trigger so much that a light breeze sets that thing off. I no longer felt comfortable shoving it down my pants for obvious reasons so I picked up a Glock 19. The Glock 19 is just barely big enough to still be a truly offensive gun, its got a high round count and you can get a good solid grip on it. Also there is a wide availability of night sights for it.
You can't go wrong either way man.
A Great holster is a Comp-Tac Spartan or Minotaur

Glock 19 for CCW. Glock 17 for everything else.
That this for what it is. I carry a USP 45F every day however I have a 17 for back up.
If I could only have one, it would be a G19.
I was in the same place a couple months ago and don't regret my G19 choice.
Well I am 6'2" tall and right around 280.. I love the fullsize feel of the 17 but the 19 seems to have the balance I am looking for. I shot both at the local gun shop that rents them out. both guns shot great and felt perfect. I guess it boils down to what length I am willing to carry and gun weight.
I have tried a ton of stuff and several glock models and 99% of the time I carry the Glock 19.
looks like I will go with the 19... and then later get the 17. just because the 19 needs a big brother/

I carry a G26 daily. I shoot a G17 @ the range more than any other pistol. The G17 is also my nightstand piece. I'll probably buy a G19 when/if I find the right deal on one ftf, l.n. However, I doubt that I'll carry anything other than the G26. "Higher mag capacity and accuracy" are fallacious, illogical reasons for buying a larger Glock for concealed carry. The G26 carries 11 rounds, or is able, of course, to use G17, G18, or G19 mags. Unless one is worried about accuracy beyond 100 yds, then the G26 is plenty accurate for concealed carry. (and I wouldn't have any trouble making 100 yd shots with my G26 than with my G17;)
19 for carry and 17 for fun. And until the GF has a ring on her finger and is referred to as Mrs. mrblueagian then buy as many guns as you want.

Given the choice to start over I would go for a Glock 26 and 17 in place of a 19. I currently only own Glock 19s which I carry and shoot in competition.
Lately I've been borrowing both 17s and 26s and found that I inexplicably shoot both of them better than I shoot a 19.
Since moving to AIWB for carry I can also get away with concealing a 17 with most of my attire. For more form fitting t-shirts I wish I had a 26 instead of my 19.

Eventually you will probably own both. I have a 17,19 and a 26. I like the 26 best for summer carry in a tshirt and shorts. 19 for everything else.

I'm 6'2" and 240 and I love my G19. It I definetly k.ow what you mean, the 21sf feels the best in my paw.
I have been carrying a gen2 G17 since 1993, same gun actually.
I found that the G17 is just as easy to conceal and carry as a G19.
In truth, you cannot go wrong with either depending on your carry method. I carry either a 22 (size of 17) or 23 (size of 19) depending on my mood. Started off with just the 23. Over many years, the 22 crept in. Mostly I carry by IWB holster on a good belt so there is little difference between the two.
I my early days I was carrying in a belly band or other deeper concealment holsters and the 23 made alot of sense.
In short, decide your carry method and mission, and pick. Both are reliable accurate easy pistols to manage with a little training on your part. Do go spend a little money on training so you can upgrade software with hardware. Hardware sets the stage, but software brings you home at night.
Glock 19 gets my vote. I've got 2 and I'm a big fan of that pistol. Just a great gun overall.
You recognize that the issue with the GEN 4 are also present in the newer GEN 3's I hope.
The Glock 19 makes for better concealed carry as it has a smaller height due to the smaller grip giving you a smaller "heel" and less print especially if carried in the 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock positions. This is why the Glock 19 is the most popular Glock model in my opinion thanks to its versatility. Good luck and enjoy.
Since depending on your size, the concealability doesn't seem to be an issue, I would go with whatever feels better in your hand. For me, the G19 fit the carry role better and I just plain like how it fits my hand. I hadn't handled a G17, but I did handle/shoot a buddy's G22 and I much preferred my 19.
I typically carry a G26 for CCW…
In my opinion the G19 is an ideal handgun for most applications…

Glock 19. The 17 is nice, but just too big for CCW. But pick up a 17 later, I did.
My first handgun was a G19, love it. But unless your 100% that you want to carry with the G19 I would rather have the G17.

You realize those issues are solved and in the past for the most part?
Any remaining outliers will be fixed with priority from Smyrna.
In 50 years, people will still be wharglbargling about the "Gen 4 issues"
OP. I shot an interesting gun recently. An old Glock 17, with the grip cut down to Glock 19 size. The slide isn't the issue in concealability so much, as it is the grip. It was essentially a "CCO" in Glock. Very cool, but not sure if it is something one would want to take upon themselves unless they had other CCW guns.
When God carries concealed He carries a Glock 19.
Not sure about the truthfulness in this statement.
Perhaps if I hadn't picked up my 27 for CC I'd have a 19.
Concealable, controllable, and you can get 33rd mags for it.
Get yourself a 19.

Go get 'em Dan.
I wish I could go back to the "Slide Peening/Glocks are Junk" period....
