Shot another 250 rounds through the 229 today at lunch (so it was a long lunch) and decided to throw her in the studio at my office when I got back. This gun shoots great, eats everything I've fed it so far...lots of cheaper brass cased stuff. And it's accurate...my favorite thing about Sigs.
That's a Mec-Gar 17 round mag (works perfectly and only protrudes about half an inch) and the Sig Sauer branded laser. For an inexpensive laser (I got it for $95), it's pretty bright...easily visible at 500 yards at night, and that's in a fairly well lit urban area (don't worry I did that experiment before I attached it to a pistol!). We'll see how it takes a few thousand rounds before I call it a good deal, but it definitely looks tacticool.
I have an EFK threaded stainless barrel on order for it as well...along with a 1911 Scorpion to match.
I'm not always a fan of Sig's "theme" guns, so people can say what they want about them, but I think it's cool to be able to get a quality production gun that comes customized from the factory...even though most of them don't appeal to me, there've been a few that I really liked. I already wanted a 229 Elite, but never wanted to fork out the money...the Scorpion color scheme and grips (for very little extra money) just pushed me over the edge when I saw it. I'm glad they didn't feel the need to print "Scorpion" anywhere on it...had they done that, I may have passed.
I took several more photos, but haven't had time to resize all of them....will try to post more later.
ETA...
Just picked up the threaded barrel. Very little fitting was needed...guy did it with a shop full of customers in 2 minutes while I waited.
I think I'm going to have the barrel finished in black, or just use a black thread protector. I'll post an update when I shoot it with this new barrel.
I have the P229 in .40. Love that pistol.
Will have my P229 Scorpion in my hands on Thursday... hope it looks as great in person as your pictures make it out to be! Totally slick.
The magazines you're using ––- are those the regular 229 15-rounders that would also fit a P228? Or are they the dash-1's that only fit the new style frame?
WoW!!! Good looking gun right there.
Thanks fellas...I've been enjoying this gun a lot.

The mag that's not in the weapon is a factory 15 round mag (229-1) and the one inserted is the Mec-Gar 17 rounder, which seems to be a copy of the factory 15 round mag with a "Plus 2" floor plate. Both mags are labeled "Made in Italy", so I imagine Mec-Gar is still making the factory 15 rounders for Sig.
I believe Mec-Gar makes a high cap magazine for the 228, though.
Just added some pics of it with the threaded barrel. Color came out a little different this time. The tan color on the Scorpions is tough to nail down accurately in photos....it's much darker than it looks in Sig's stock photos.
Update...when I chambered a round I realized the EFK barrel needed quite a bit more fitting at the bottom of the feed ramp and the top of the barrel shoulder (whatever the hell that's called). After I got it running, I refinished the top of the shoulder using a knife sharpener (three different grit stones) and polished it back up with NEVR-DULL.... came out looking like new, it eats everything I put through it (ran four different loads through it with the new barrel), and of course she is accurate.
Will post a family photo (or five) when her 1911 scorpion counterpart shows up...hopefully this week or early next, according to Sig.
