My beloved 228,now with new Hogue aluminum grips
I also have the aluminum grips on my P220. I was worried that they'd be like cheese graters, but they're actually really comfortable.
I tried Hogue rubber grips and while they were comfy I didn't really feel they improved "traction" any and they tended to stick to my shirt causing the gun to print badly. Then I stippled my original grips because the factory grips are just too smooth.Worked great, great grip, problem was it was murder to carry. The little bit that my Crossbreed allowed to touch my skin was rubbed raw just walking around the house for an hour. These Hogue aluminum grips are just the cats ass. They don't feel sharp like traditional cut checkering. You can sit there and rub it on your skin and you won't get the cheese grater effect I get from my 1911 but when you grip it, it just sucks your hand in and gives a very firm feel.I was worried from the pics that the aluminum grips would be too smooth and was going to get their "piranha" grips.Glad I didn't,these are perfection.
How do they compare to the stock grips, in terms of width? Thinner overall, thicker, same?
Didn't mic them but definitely thinner and the backstrap appears slightly straighter.Really gives the gun a completely new feel.
how much weight did they add?

My question is this: Is the swell at the bottom rear of the grip as pronounced with the aluminum grips?

Looks and feels much straighter than the factory grips.Since there seems to be a fair amount of questions I'll get the calipers out and try to find a scale and get some empirical data together and more pics this weekend.
I have them on one of my P220r elite carry guns and I love them, I would but them on the rest of my sigs if I could find them and afford them all LOL
they are thinner and they turn in at the magwell
Where did you get those grips from please? I've got a 228 that is just screaming for new grips.
I was lucky enough to find one of the very early thin aluminum Hogue grips that actually had Sig Sauer on them. I have my third P228 due tomorrow. They will look sweet on the new two tone P228.
And here it is, oh and there is no extra weight that I can tell, but the grip is so much better.
