Shotgun dilemma. Stoeger 3500
I am looking for a duck gun for my son who is turning 16 in a few weeks. Long story short he is using a Remington 870 pump 20 gauge which he has used and became quite proficient with since I bought it for him when he was 12. He has been mentioning saving up the cash for a 12 gauge, and I had an idea. He always seems to be content and I can never for the life of me figure out what the hell he actually wants or needs. He just got his report card, a 4.0 for the 5th year straight so I thought for his birthday I would buy him a new autoloading 12 gauge. I was thinking about getting him a used Benelli Sbe or Sbe 2, but I can only find beat to shit ones around here for over 900. I noticed a Stoeger 3500 they had in stock, though, new in box. I know that the first Stoeger m2000 was a piece of shit, but have not seen any reviews for the new revision 2000's or 3500'. It comes out to be just about 600 dollars new, just about what I want to spend. Dont know much of anything about other brands like Mossberg or Beretta. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Your posting somehow ended up in the SiG Sauer section but I'll bite...
Stoeger is owned by Benelli's parent company and uses the Benelli system (IIRC)...parent company is Beretta...one thought is why not buy your son a nice Remington Wingmaster in 12GA...it is everything he already knows...second...how about a Remington 1100???...nice semi auto that is similar to the 870 he already knows...
I have to admit to little hunting experience (Remington 870 12GA or Stevens single shot 12GA and pheasant hunts) but have used the Remington 870, 1100 and Mossberg 500 in law enforcement scenarios...I don't see much the 870 Wingmaster can't do but the others are fine as well...good luck with your choice and it's a nice thing you are doing with your son...

Thank you for the reply. Im not quite sure how this topic got posted into the Sig Sauer Handgun Forum though.
P226 is always a safe choice.....anyways really don't think your allowed to put Mossberg and. Beretta in the same sentence. Without getting custom or crazy expensive Beretta is the best I've felt. Pretty sure Mossbergs are actually made by Fisher-Price. Why not another 870 in 12 gauge?
870 wingmaster. Or if you are set on semi-auto, remington 1100
