It's official, my son has totally taken over my 92FS, what is the best
replacement?
It is a companion gun to a Storm carbine.
I have plenty of mags and holsters, etc. either for CC, or tricked out with the old school tac lite, etc.
I want to replace it with another 92 that fits the same gear.
It is an early 90s USA made model.
SS or blued fine, where is a good place to look for a decent deal used?
Why not a Taurus 92 that you can carry cocked & locked for a hundred or so less?

Because he want another Beretta.
Go to the Beretta Forum they know how you feel.
It is like going to a specialist...It will cost you more but they know that is going on with you.
You said it JRC.
I had not had it out for quite a while.
Could not figure out why he preferred it.
And decided I just needed to replace it.

Someone posted a link to this place in another thread:
http://www.amfirearmbroker.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=13&catid=1
I think the last time I looked they were selling them for $385.00, but it looks like the price got bumped up to $395.00. They also auction them on Gunbroker.com.
I've never dealt with them before, but it might be worth looking into.
Any police supply stores local to you? I got a pd trade-in 92fs with 6 mags for $310. My local store gets them in semi-frequently.

I bought a CX4 and a 92Fs as a combo and now I have 4 Berettas total.
I don't knock other units. I just know what works and feels good to me.
That other place has lots of info, and will have what you like.
I also think Beretta make a HOT, SEXY gun.
just get another.
I sold my Inox 92FS and regret it.
Find a 92G Elite II, I had a 92F at one point but the Elite is in a class of its own.
Thanks for the info guys.
I had called 6 gun shops around me, none had an INOX in and all had too high in my opinion costs on used blued ones.
Went to the littlest gun shop in my nearest little town (that did not have any per phone last week) just for kicks as me and the son were driving by it.
Under a pad on the top glass on a top shelf was a used US made INOX.
He also had, that he did not know in a bottom corner, a Italian made 92, AND an Elite 96. What a little treasure trove for not knowing he had them!
Maybe not the best deal going in the days of the internet,
but the best I could do delivered on a NIB INOX with 2 15 round mags was 690ish if I did not have to pay tax or any charges extra to the FFL transfer fee.
For 586$ out the door I got a 2000 date INOX with 3 of those shiny, made in Italy 17 round mags and the Beretta marked rubber Houge panel grips.
Yeah, my wife may think it was a bad thing.
But-
I supported my country by buying a US made product
supported a local small business
AND helped save the environment by buying used and recycling. I am a freaken' SAINT.
It looks a little different than a new one without the black parts and hex head screws.
Zero use/wear on the mags, it has been fired, but either I don't know what wear looks like on an INOX, it was fired very little, or parts have been replaced with new.
I really like it.
I got to get it RF-NOW! instead of waiting.
And have decided these are the grips I like best anyway.
I have used Houge finger grips for a LONG time,
but after a wrist rebuild surgery my hand range of motion and dexterity have somehow changed things to the safety off and on with my thumb need a touch less grip.
Those grips on my blue 92 were also a touch much for my son, and he has been using the factory grips.
When switching over from lefty mag release on my new used INOX, I noticed no grip screw washers , I guess it does not need them/did not come with them.
He gets the blue one for his birthday next week.
Forgive the grips and after market screws,
I wanted something that will make him grin even wider and I noticed the kids his age love these kind of touches.
(and yes, back in the day I did thread the factory barrel so it took the same compensator as my 9x21 barrel- which reminds me, I should probably sell that barrel, compensator, onex fired brass, and factory 9x21 I have stashed)
Some of you have mentioned a good Beretta forum,
I would appreciate if you shoot me the name or link.
I can look for some info there vs. getting sidetracked on Beretta here instead of my ARs.
Thanks! Nothing like a bunch of internet enablers when it is time to shop guns, old cars parts, etc!
www.berettaforum.net
The Beretta-smithing section is particularly informative.

Uhmmm, perhaps he prefers quality over saving $100?

Nice looking gun, I always liked the Inox guns. IMO it wasn't a steal but you didn't get hosed either and since you like it, it was a good buy. Hope you get many enjoyable days shooting with your son, those are priceless.
Thanks gun nut.
Yeah, I know it was not a steal,
and only a hundred bucks under what I could have done for a NIB one.
But,
I like the steel guide rod, and three 17 round vs. two 15 round mags and a plastic guide rod on a new one.
I also like the all SS controls vs. black,
and.
most importantly-
the RIGHT NOW factor vs. waiting for a deal, to order one, etc.
I came out of it happy and really like it.
Whenever I am NOT in the market for something, everyone seems to be in the middle of a divorce, new kid coming, about to get married, needs a major car or motorcycle repair, or is funding a new expensive gun and there are fire sales left and right.
When I DO go to look for something, none of that going on. Some luck when it comes to shopping.
Probably the better buy would have been the blue 96 Elite at a similar price.
I guess I could have been more hard core in my haggling,
but my heart was just not really into dickering. I was feeling too lucky to find one I could have right then and there after a week or so of phone calls and searches looking for one vs. ordering one.
I just went through the motions.
His birthday is almost here and along with my old Beretta he wanted got some new kit for him.
A week or two after my son's birthday will be a match., and will shoot in it with him.
Was in a hurry to get another Beretta for me.
Plus, the different finish will throw off the wife and she won't get mad at me for "you mean you bought another gun just like one you already have"
I can't be the only guy on here that has done and heard that!
Have not shot in a match since the late 90s, and that was a G19.
Not shot my Beretta in one since some where between 90-94.
And it was only a part time hobby at that vs. the every weekend kind of thing.
Really looking forward to doing it with him.
He does not run with the wrong crowd, likes girls, digs old cars, and is getting excited about guns. I'm a lucky Dad.

While I really like the Elites I would have still bought a 92 over a 96 regardless of model. I don't care for the .40, especially in a Beretta.

Welcome to MY world, homes....................
Have you done the spring swapping on your 92's in order to improve their trigger pull(s) yet?
I never have put in the D springs.
I have been right next to guys with a Hi Power, glock, etc. shooting the exact ammo,
and with some stuff had noticed my Beretta ALWAYS fired the primer,
where with some ammo my buddies were not.
I had always thought the extra pull was the cost for this.
Maybe I am wrong and in the day of tons of info on the internet need to relook it.

I've got thousands of rds thru my 92FS with the lowered mainspring & have NEVER had a single issue.
After reading this thread yesterday, I took my original 92FS out today send some rds downrange. It's still as accurate & reliable as the day I bought it used 12-13 years ago. Still has the original locking block too.
