I bought a set of warren tactical rear and fiber optic front's. The rear sight came out easy enough, but I could not for the life of me drift out the front. It will not budge. the slide was tightly secure in a vice, and i was using a puch. I was trying to drift it to the right, same side as the brass ejects. Is this the correct direction to drift the sight out?

Yes you are doing it right. What are you using to drive the sights out with?

Well I didnt have a brass or other non maring punch, so I used a steel punch that was roughly the same width as the dovetail. I started with a small brass hammer, but after no success, I moved onto regular hammers. I even tried a 10 pounder. That thing will not budge.

Damn even with a 10 pounder!? Try putting Kroil into the dovetail and let it sit for a couple hours to a day and then try again.

I had the same issue when trying to remove the front sight on mine. I ended up just paying the gunsmith $20 to do it instead of taking a chance on cracking a tritium tube putting in the new sights.

I recall hearing somewhere that they use a hydraulic press to put those in.

same thing happened to me. all you need to do is remove the slide and put it in your freezer overnight. next morning then just get a brass punch and a big hammer and it will come right out. yes it comes out on the ejection side.
