 M&P9 converted to M&P9c - possible?

I have a M&P9, problem is Im a skinny guy. Winters no biggy, but in the warmer months the grip prints like a mofo. Sure, probably not enough to draw attention, but enough to bug the shit out of me.

So question is;
Can I just purchase a M&Pc frame? Will it hook right up to my slide?

Thanks

The shorter frame exposes the rod and spring.

I didn't fire the gun after I put the FS barrel and slide onto the 9c's frame. I disassembled and reassembled correct barrel / slide to frames.

A member on here cut his fs frame to compact size.

Be easier to just sell/trade it for a compact

Or just buy a Compact and have both for the different seasons!

This is the best solution.

If you can't afford another, sell the first and buy a 9c.

This is what Ill be doing. But I think Ill be bumping up to the .40.

Do they make a 17rd magazine with a grip extender or something for the C models?

Thanks for the replies guys.

Why the change to .40?

I have the fs and the c and I'm considering selling the full size.

once I got x-grips I'm not sure what the point of a full size is since I don't compete....

The compacts accept the full size mags. For the .40 that means a 15 round magazine and yes, they do make x-grips for them that work really well. When I carry my compact 9, I use the finger extension compact 12 round mag with a 17 round reload.

I guess you could call it compatibility. A couple buddies are running .40, we all just want to be on the same boat. . . . I may have been spending too much time in the SF Nothing is set in stone though.

Once again, thanks for all the replies!

I don't see the point of the C when you can have an FC with a C sized grip. Barrel length doesn't effect carry in either comfort or concealment, but has tangible benefits such as muzzle velocity and sight radius.

I gave my C to my wife.

This is precisely what I want. Im assuming you cut, or had the grip cut down? I thought S&W would be manufacturing something like this, I was kinda shocked to turn nothing up in searches.

Are the tool and the backstrap still functional/removable? I don't know how comfortable I am doing it myself, Ill be pissed if I destroy a frame! hahaha How much do you think a smith would charge, or do you have a DIY thread or some link you can help me out with?

Thanks a ton.

Nice line up by the way!

I don't have a how to thread really. I did post a thread when I originally did it, but nothing that shows the process, and I deleted some of the photos in my photobucket accidentally. It's quite easy to do. I had the C, so I measured from the top of the frame to the magwell, then took that measurement and made a line on the FS. I wrapped a strip of masking tape around the line to get a good indicator all the way around, then I sawed it off with a hacksaw. File to fit with a little sandpaper or emery cloth to remove the burrs. I sanded until the C magazine would catch easily on the mag release. I sawed the backstrap with the frame, and it is still removable. The tool however is no longer able to fit, so to retain the backstrap, you simply screw in a 10-32 socket head cap screw. To fill the area, you could cut the tool and drill a hole for the cap screw, or I have seen people epoxy the tool in to retain the backstrap. I made a filler block from aluminum and counter bored it for a low head cap screw (see below, different than the original pic.)

Photos on 1" squares.

Chop and bob

Chop and bob because I chopped the grip and bobbed the beavertail.

I didn't think of it at the time, but you could buy a tool from S&W for the C and modify that to fill the space.
