9C with Trijicon RMR..
Ok, so I just picked up an RMR to throw on my 9c..
I'm debating whether or not irons even need to be on the weapon.
Half the time, I'm dead set of them. Failure of the dot, etc. I like iron sights.
The other half of the time, I think they're pointless on this pistol, for the use I intend it for.
It will be a range toy. I don't plan on carrying it and even if I did, I'm not going to be using it to pop shot some guy at 25 yards. If the BG's are that far away, I'll do whatever I can do to egress and then if I have to use the weapon, I'll wait until they're within that "get the front sight on them and pow" range..
Just not sure which was to go..
Anyone?
I couldn't handle a pistol without sights, and it's not like they will be in the way.

I have had a RMR on my FS M&P9 for about 7-8 months. I went with the Iron sights in back of the RMR. For me the act as back up and also they do slow down the time required to get used to the dot. I have over 5k rounds and 2 classes with the pistol. It really takes some time to get used to the RMR at speed. At least it did for me. I am glad I went the with the irons and in fact just did a G17 with a RMR and went with the irons on it as well. HTH
Biggest thing with the red dots is finding the red dot, because you've got to bring it to proper alignment with your eyes. Having the back-up sights helps you find the red dot more quickly since your eyes are already used to going to the irons then its just looking up at the red dot.

This.
I had a g17 with rmr and the irons do help acquire the dot as well as get used to finding the natural position where you present and dont have to search for the dot.
Good points.
I've got a few pistols with red dots, but had never considered the irons helping find the dot, even though they do.
Please post a pic once you have it installed. Never seen one on one of the subcompact models before

Yeah, I can't take credit for it though I heard it first from Chris Costa, but it turned out to be pretty true.
The Delta Point is thinner isn't it than an RMR?
Wonder if it could be mounted on the Shield? Probably not.
I have both, a deltapoint on my full size and a rmr on the compact. both are about the same width where they mount to the gun. I have seen pics of a 9mm/40 kahr with an rmr milled in, which is probably about the same thickness as a shield so it probably could be done....

Any preference on the RDS? I've got another pistol that will see less "rigorous" duty and I'm thinking about putting a Deltapoint on it.
So far, both have been plenty durable, I have carried both. I have a deltapoint on my full size 9 and a dual illuminated RMR on my 9c. The deltapoint, if you use it right can give you a finer aim point, both are about the same quickness. I have heard ancidotal evidence that the RMR is a bit tougher, but in my experience so far they are about the same.

Thanks for the reply. I've got an RMR headed out to Mark Housel this week, but I think the wife is gonna try the Deltapoint on something soon.

Mark has done great work on mine and his turn around time has been fantastic.
Any recommendations on non-appendix carry IWB holsters? I've got a Glock 17 at Bowie Tactical getting a Deltapoint with back up irons mounted and having the grip cut down to G19 length.

Any of the normal kydex holsters with a reduced or no sweat guard should work for you. Also Dale Frickel Holsters has The Seraphim holster. It is a AIWB holster but he can make it to be carried else where. HTH
