I got a new Storm Lake drop-in barrel for my XD45 and from the pics it doesn't fit correctly, the top is not flush and it's very tight - i don't want to force it since i might not be able to get it out.
What can I do, I assume all new replacement barrels are considered "semi" drop-in that might need some fitment?
and my OEM barrel, it's flush on top and fits perfectly.
The StormLake website states that the XD barrels require no fitting and are supposed to drop in. They frown on you returning and item that has be "worked on".
I would contact them and see if they would replace the barrel for you.

Since this is the gunsmithing & trouble shooting section,,,,,,,,
Your barrel does not look as if it needs much to be fitted. Very tiny amounts of stoning the locking surface (steps) on the top of the barrel may get you there. Do not change the angle of the steps or modify your slide to fit this barrel. Much easier to return it for another barrel.

it worked perfect, i used a fine file and ran it across the steps a few times and along the hood. it's a perfect fit without movement too, looks like i'll get tighter groups like my 1911
I have the same issue but mine is a Sig 229 and an EFK barrel.
