Bought this late in the fall last year shot two IDPA matches & noticed the pistol was tough to reload after firing maybe 2 moon clips, I would have to start using some pressure to get the gun reloaded, shells drop in 3/4 the way before getting hung & pressure is needed to finish seating them.

tried factory ball ammo same thing, 2 - 3 moonclips fired & it gets tough to reload which is essential in a IDPA match.

Wilson moon clips - seems the cyinder is getting dirty real fast causing the drag when reloading the gun.

IDPA season just started here for us & the wife would like to use this, so the 2 month + wait at S&W service dept is not practical, any suggestions on a repair aside from sending it back for a new cylinder install?

seems like I always have a pistol back at S&W for a repair, they are just so darn slow, 3/4/11 they rec a 629 for a barrel change, i dont expect that back for another 5 - 6 weeks which is unreasonable over christmas it took them 10 weeks on a barrel swap

pics below after 4 moonclips had been fired yesterday, it was cleaned prior & loaded easily while clean.

looks like those chambers could use a polish. They look pretty rough.

One question. If you drop a loose round in the chambers does it likewise partially drop in? If so then I'd concur that the chambers look rough ( actually the chambers look rough regardless) if the loose rounds drop fully into the chamber though then the moon clip could be a problem.

Thanks gents for the replies, some they do & some they dont on loading them single w/o the wilson clips, majority they hang, they all load fine with a cleaned cylinder, one stage, maybe 14 - 18 shots? and the weapon is a bear to load - damn that could be why S&W sent those nifty little cleaning kits w/ the pistols, for times when more than 6 shots are required

The gents over at the S&W forum seem to think its typical S&W using the reamers to the last drop, hence a slightly tight or undersized chamber.

Shit happens but the 8-10 week turn around time with S&W is just unreasonable.

The 629 they rec 3-4-11 they still havent cashed the check that was enclosed & today the pistol made it in for inspection, now I have 3-5 week wait I am told

I have 2 more 629's & this 625 that needs to go back Sure is not the S&W I dealt with in the 80's even the early 90's 2-4 week turnaround back in those days.

Have to see if they have a feedback thread on this board & take a dump in it
