I am about ready to throw this Ruger 22/45.....
When I rock the mainspring assembly back in the rear of the grip it pulls the pin back down through the slide. I have undone and redone ever video tutorial I can watch and still no help. As I close the mechanism down the large pin is pulled back down through the bolt and slide. Some help would be great. Thanks.
I hear you! I have to go to youtube every time I clean the thing. All about the hammer & pulling the trigger & Mag in and mag out ....All at the right time..
I finally got it, but I am ordering the replacement kit to get around that disconnect.
I feel your pain, ended up getting some help from a kind soul at the local range. Diagrams and vids still aren't clear if you haven't put one together, especially if they are brand new.
MK2 or MK3? Sounds like the hammer strut is not aligned correctlywith the mainspring assemly or the hammer is in the cocked position. With the MMK3 pistols you will need the magazine in the pistol an pull the triiger while swinging the mainspring housing in...while aiming the pistol at an upward angle to allow the hammer strut to dangle at the correct place to align with the mainspring housing. If you feel a little spring tension just as the mainspring seats flush in the handle, you have done it right and the strut is in the right place.
It is also possible the strut is jammed in the wrong spot and not dangling loose. If that's the case you can look into the opening with the mainspring housing out and see if it isn't wedged up in there and not free.
My 22/45 is BY FAR the biggest PITA to re-assemble. Easy to disassemble, it lulls you into a sense of false confidence...
Yeah, they can be tricky till you get the hang of it. I have had hundreds of these pistols apart and I still plan on 1 out of 5 taking 2 or more tries to get back together correctly.
On the other hand....the Ruger is still simple compared to a Nylon 66

Yeah it sounds like your hammer (and therefore strut) is not in the forward/fired position. Also make sure the mainspring housing is as far up in the receiver as possible. Remember, you need to have the hammer forward and the turn the gun top down and rotate the mainspring housing in (you should see the hammer strut resting on the mainspring housing as you rotate so that it ends up in the spring recess).
You'll be ordering a Mark II trigger bushing soon won't you? $7 isn't worth this headache, is it?

OP, you need to watch
THIS VID.. Very good internals vid. Nutnfancy and Sadly Missing show how to mod the pistol with a few parts to eliminate this issue as well as upgrade the trigger. I'm going to do this mod to my 22/45 as soon as I recover ($$$) from the holidays. There's also some sweet suppressor pron at the end of the vid.
