Federal white box XM40HC
I tried the search function and nothing showed up. What is the hive's opinion on Federals white box XM40HC? GTG for SD or just good plinking ammo????

Anybody have any experience other then just punching paper with it?
Thanks BT
HST should be gtg.

Bones, thanks for the hot link schooling, I think I got it figured out now.
I know the Federal HST round in .45 acp is a humdinger, I have just never shot or dealt with ANY HST in the White box/brass case. Was kind of looking for some input before I bit the bullet.....pun intended.
Cheers

Looks like an excellent deal. Wish they sold some budget friendly white box HST in 9mm as well...

I got 100 rounds of the same Federal HST's in the white box with brass casings. They are the same specs as the regular boxed HST only with brass cases and primers. They run very well out of an M&P.

Wish they would do this in 45 cal too, I'd jump all over that.

Thanks for the input. I placed an order for 15 boxes. I just picked up a M&P (first 40 cal) so we shall see how well it likes them as well.
I wish SG Ammo had them in 45 also.

If you want some badass .40 S&W, get the Winchester 180 Grain Bonded HP that they are selling in the factory Ranger boxes. This is Homeland Security overrun and first quality. Not factory seconds or white boxes. These were overrun so the case will have a Z on it designating it to be allowed to be sold to civilians, but the actual boxes are still in their gold Ranger boxes. You are getting $40/box ammo for $16 a box of 50! I bought 1500 rounds of it as it was just as cheap as decent plinking ammo. It shoots great in low light and is top tier ammo. Get some of that as well. You won't find first quality at that price much longer.

Actually I traded for 500 rounds of the Ranger SXT T-Series 180grn, although it's quite a bit more at $24.95 a box for .40 cal. I've tried it in 45acp and liked it immensely. I am still debating picking up some of the Bonded HP and see how it does, at that price it's worth it.

The white box HST is good to go. It's what my G23 is currently loaded with.
i used to use this as carry ammo in a glock 23. i shot a snake with it and can say that expansion was perfect. i'm pretty sure it will work on bad guys too.

I've bought 1500 rounds of it and fired 500 through my full size M&P .40 with excellent results.
My usual .40 carry ammo is the regular, nickel plated case variety but I would have have no reservations about depending on this white box HST ammo for carry or self defense.
From another forum:
There are basically 3 differences between the P40HST1 and the XM40HC:
1.. Velocity
P40HST1 990-1025 FPS
XM40HC 1015 +/- 16 FPS
2.. Muzzle Energy
P40HST1 406 ft lbs
XM40HC 410 ft. lbs
3.. Bullet Push
P40HST1 80lb min
XM40HC 70 lb min
Of course regular HST is loaded in nickel plated brass while the XM40HC I've seen is regular brass. A lot of gov't contracts specify plain brass.

Correct, and thanks for the specs above. As to a lot of government contracts specifying brass...... I believe it is due to costs, as it's cheaper than the nickel plated stuff. It's the same damn ammo sans the plated cases. Either way, nickel or brass I love HST's in .40 caliber. Its a reliable penetrating and expanding round.

novaDAK - thanks for the specs, much appreciated.
I got home today and my ammo was sitting on the kitchen floor waiting for me. I'm pretty stoked and waiting for the weekend to go try it out. I love the HST, but while inspecting my new shipment of the 40 cal I couldn't help but think how much smaller it is then the .45 acp. Still got to get use to that.

You will get used to it, I did. 40's and 45's are all I own and shoot now. Both are equally fun to shoot and solid performers.
