3.9" Barrel; which would you choose?
I've been carrying my 3.9" barreled SIG P220 with RA 45B, a bonded round, which is the equivalent of 230 grain PDX 1, and I also have a good amount of P45 HST2 230 grain standard pressure HST on hand as well.
Although penetration is paramount, I've been wondering about the reliability of expansion in that short a barrel length; I've fired hundreds of each round through the gun with excellent accuracy and both have been 100% reliable.
Of these two loadings; which would you choose to carry and why?
Thanks.

Have you considered testing them yourself? You could also contact the manufactures and see which has the lowest velocity for expansion. Personally, I would go with the HST. Winchester has issues making proper cuts in their RA45T bullets which end up needing more velocity to reliably expand. You have the bonded version which of course is different but the bullet cuts look to be similar which makes me leery. At least with the HST you can see those massive notches. TEST EM'!
Either one would be fine. You only loose 30 fps going from a 5" to a 4" barrel anyway.
Dont they make a +P HST 230
someone chrony them a few days back out of a 3.8 short barrel (member ABNAK)
and was getting over 900fps
maybe I was dreaming
Im a huge ranger fan but I would use the HST
EDIT TO ADD
check ABNAK Topic

I'm just about ready to switch back to the 230 grain HST which is my preferred loading; 147 grain in 9mm and 180 grain in .40 with all loadings being standard pressure.
I shoot a lot of my carry ammo and I'm concerned about causing a problem with my SIG's aluminum frame by running too much +P through it.

If you are worried about the Sig frame or the rails you could use the +P 230HST sparingly or for SD only.
900 FPS sound like its really cooking in a 3.8 barrel
Good luck to you
I sell tons of both the standard pressure and the +P HST. I have Ranger Bonded in all of my guns.

Is it because of terminal performance, or reliability issues?
I just switched back to the P45 HST2 in my gun and RA 45B on my belt dammit.
where's the best place to buy P45 HST2 these days?
