If Sig ever closes this deal we might see some used P5`s on these shores.

That would be nice. I have a Dutch manual for the P5 since over a dozne years, makes me feel obliged to get the corresponding gun.

A friend of mine lives in The Netherlands and has told me about these pistols and why they are being replaced.

The Dutch use a very hot loading for their issue 9mm round.

These pistols are shot out, loose, many have cracks in the frames and slides.

In short they are worn out junkers. I doubt that one in 100 would be worth the trouble to import.

Also, given the current European Union stance on firearms ownership, I doubt these will go anywhere but to the scrapper.

I'd love to have a good P5, however, these Dutch police issue pistols are not good P5s.

As I understand it Walther still gears up the tooling to make the P5 every once in a while. I'm sure they have a few pistols in good shape among the clunkers.

Also, given the current European Union stance on firearms ownership, I doubt these will go anywhere but to the scrapper.

Given the current fiscal situation they may trade them in on new pistols but this is the netherlands so you are probably right.

The Netherlands are doing fine. They do not need to worry about selling the guns. I somehow doubt that the guns are shot to the smitherines, the Netherlands would have already replaced them.
