A local gun shop who sends barrels to Mag-Na-Port to be ported told a friend of mine that Desert Eagles can't be ported because of the gas port, I've never heard of this, truth or fiction any comments I can give to him? Told him to call directly they would know better than second hand talk.

I dont know for sure either way but they are gas operated if I remember correctly so in theory holes in the barrel might have a effect on the operation

They recoil pretty softly for what they are

Hopefully you will find a better answer

Not true.

Magnum Research recommends MagNaPort for barrel porting. It has no affect on the piston/gas system. MagNaPort ports the barrel near the muzzle. The gases used from the cartridge to cycle the slide enter the gas/piston system setup from the muzzle end of the chamber. Therefore, all the gas needed to cycle the slide is in the piston area well before the bullet reaches the muzzle, where the ports are to be placed.

For proof, right from their website: http://www.magnumresearch.com/FAQ_deserteagle.asp

Can my Desert Eagle pistol be ported?
Yes, we suggest a company called MagNaPort International. Please contact them directly if you would like to have your pistol/revolver done at 1-586-469-6727, www.magnaport.com.

Thanks guys, he did indeed make a phone call to Mag Na Port, and they told him send the barrel we can port it with no problems to the gas operating system. Yet another question answered by fellow AR15er's.
