Gas check lead bullets in DE?

I know there are issues with lead bullets crudding up the gas port in a Desert Eagle. However, since the gas port is right at the front of the chamber, the bullet would not actually pass by the port when being fired. Rather, the only source of lead at the port would come from the vaporized lead from the base of the bullet when fired.

With this in mind, has anyone tried shooting hard cast lead with a gas check? This would elimitate the vaporized lead from the base of the bullet. Would there be any other issues?

Feeding issues? Thats a pretty flat bullet, I'd see how they feed before I'd load a bunch up myself.

I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure the bullet passes right over the gas port. Theres a reason MRI says jacketed bullets only.

Do not shoot non jacketed ammo in your DE period. That is false economy plain and simple.

yes, the gas port is down the barrel about 1/4 of the way. If it were right at the chamber i doubt there would be enough pressure built up to move that chunk of steel called the slide...

Actually, get a flashlight and look in the barrel from the chamber end. The gas port is at about the 8 o'clock position, and right at the end of the chamber, just before the rifling starts.

And that should help the gun function. The farther back the gas port is from the end of the barrel, the longer there is pressure going to the port.

Either way I wouldn't want to risk it. Aren't non-jacketed bullets a no-no in polygonal barrels?

That's what I thoght the DE rule was for too. No lead in polygonal barrels. Of course I just obeyed the rule and didn't even consider non-jacketed bullets. I havne't re-read the manuel though.
